Being self sufficient means being personally and independently sustainable for all of life's basic needs: food, shelter, and clothing. Self sufficient individuals do not need to be dependent on outside resources for their basic needs and they are capable of attending to a wide variety of necessary tasks on their own. This can lower an individual's impact on natural resources and in turn improve the conditions of their local environment.

(Note the above is copied from the website!) ;)

This site has a long long list of SS steps to incorporate in your life if you can. Of course alot of them we are doing and discuss on the board.

Also there is a Low Impact Living link on the green bar on top. Click it and it has alot of info on it also.

Ditto! :thumbsup

I think the folks that are new to being self sufficient should remember that most of us started out at the beginning. We might have known a few things or done a few things. Gradually adding and trying different things helps to keep it from being overwhelming.

And don't compare yourself to others, here on the board, or elsewhere. We all have our different levels of self sufficiency, our different ways of doing things.

Right now I see that there are 186 guests viewing the forum topics. Join up, we'd like to meet you!

I have to say :thumbsup on that post Marianne.

There are so many quests watching I wish they would just jump in. Take that chance and post. Chat away!

When I look at the user list it amazes me how many are watching.

Just so long as it's not Big Brother. :hide

I'm already doing many of those, but some are not practical for me right now. For instance, walking or riding a bike to work. For me, that would be going to the farm instead. It's 10.4 miles. There's no way I could walk it and home in 1 day and get anything else done, and I don't have the time to ride a bike there and back. But at least taking the motorcycle saves me a ton of gas. I've almost doubled the miles I have on it just in this year alone!
