Do you stain your projects? I know a lot of people that use polyurethane on most projects. I tend to use more stain - I feel the stain makes the finished project look "older". Most of the crafts I make are supposed to be "antiqued" so I use a light stain. What do you use more? Are you brand specific too?

I usually stain and poly and if its a table or bar top I will use paste wax. I seem to like Minwax products most. most of all is making sure when you are finishing that your work area is clean and that you light sand or steal wool between coats and wipe with a tack cloth I like wipe on poly the best.

I have been on a kick with oil finishes lately. There's a product I can get around here - bush oil - that really looks amazing. I think it's similar to teak or danish oil.

I love the way polyurethane gives a glassy look, but i hate having to sand between coats.

Oh yeah, it sets up quite hard. It's one part boiled linseed oil, one part tung oil, and one part urethane. Builds up to a really nice luster. A master craftsman out of Amsterdam, William Bush sells it. But, my hardwood dealer sells it retail.

It's really the first oil finish I've had experience with, so I can't say for sure if it's better/worse than other oil finishes.

Ugh, yeah, snow here too. 60 degrees yesterday, snow today. Supposed to be warm again next week.
