I’m at a loss!

It’s been 4 days since I helped this chunky monkey of a lamb eat. We have been providing Onyx with lamb pellets and some hay but we have left baby to work things out on her own. Well take a look at today’s pictures. What is going on here?! I was planning on releasing them to pasture with my ND goats and poultry tomorrow. Is that still a good idea?

He still looks fat as a tick to me...is there something we aren't seeing? A fat lamb is a good thing when it comes to nursing a mama.

I don’t know if she’s been eating mommas food I guess she could be if she’s standing on her hind legs to reach. Onyx’s udder looks about right to me not distended or empty. They are looked up indoors in what was originally my turkey juvinile coop they have no acces to anything but what I put in there and the bantams that sneak in. What could it be? Even if she was only one eating mommas food and not nursing she still wouldn’t be that big right?

To my admittedly untrained eye the lamb looks o.k. If you can, take a series of pics of it through the day and then compare it over a day or two and see how it changes. That would give you a better idea of what is "normal" and when to start worrying.

Even if she was only one eating mommas food and not nursing she still wouldn’t be that big right?

My first Katahdin lamb was a little fatty on nothing but mama's milk and grass, as I fed no grains. I was amazed at how quickly he fattened up, but I'm guessing their milk is very rich.

I think she's doing fine and that you've done well on this one.

I took the plunge!

I let Onyx and the lamb out. They seem like any other lamb and her baby. Even better Onyx’s udder looks like it’s been getting a lot more attention then it was these past few days. Maybe she was just to stressed? Hopefully things go well because one of my pure katahdins is showing signs of impending lambing!
