Training dogs to gaurd, not eat, the chickens . .

I am totally new (don't have them yet hehee) to chickens. We have 2 dogs - a sheltie mix that is almost 15 and a blue heeler/aussie mix that is 13 months. They are both outside dogs and with us getting chickens in the next month or so I was wondering . . how will I train them to not eat the chickens?? I have never trained a dog to do anything other than the basic sit, come, stay and down. I appreciate any experience, recomendations on what to do/not do, advise etc. that anyone can offer.
