I don't know how many of you are working on being self sufficient in the city, but Novella Carpenter has been farming in Oakland for over ten years and has written a book about her experiences. I heard some of it on NPR last night.
Her funniest story that I heard was about how she would go to fish markets to get the fish parts no one eats for her pigs. She met up with this homeless guy that she often gave money to. When he saw what she was getting, he felt sorry for her and tried to give HER money. But she was also dumpster diving for her pigs too.
She has some interesting stories, espeically considering the environment she is living in.
I guess she studied journalism under Micheal Pollan.
