before we can move in a few years, it occurs to me that as I live in a rural area, maybe I could get friendly with some of the farms that are right near us, and start some of my projects now,

I have already done goats and chickens at farms futher away
but now I am thinking maybe I need to get to know one of the farms that I can see out the door

does anyone here have to drive to their garden or animals, I know several farmers years ago back home who lived in town but had their animals out at the family farm...am I crazy for thinking about it? I know it would be so much better to have the animals in the back yard... what do you think? crazy?

in the past I have done some meat projects with friends, at farms further away, but they were offering up some of the labor, so I didn't have to go everyday, or I only went once a day
I would hate to get all burnt out before we own real land...my kids are getting big enough that they could go to some of these nearby farms on their own...which could help?

Most of the farmers I know rent some of the land they plant or run cattle on, so they are very familiar with the concept. When I was a kid, my folks had a big garden at an older widow's house. He got companionship, they got a spot for a garden and plenty of advice!

hmmmm
older widow got me thinking

now I can see several farms from my yard, but about 1 mile away is the very nice farm of an older widow that even goes to my church...my only concern is will I get tired of driving out there, even though it is relativly close, or will it just become part of life...

in these parts there are an awful lot of people who drive far everyday for their horses...
