What About a Valentines Meal?

I know most couple go out on Valentine's day.

However, there are so many restaurants in my city that I end up eating out a lot. It's just not as special as it once was anymore.

Me and my boyfriend have really been into cooking at home. We love to try new recipes, too.

Any suggestions on great recipes for Valentines day?

Of course, chocolate is a must, but what about the main course?

I realize it's probably too late to help out with this since the day's here but I can tell you what we're doing... the menu will be a bacon cheeseburger meatloaf that will be made in the shape of a heart, Baby Red mashed potatoes that I will tint pink (it doesn't change the flavor, honest! Well, unless you go overboard!), corn, and Valentines Day decorated cupcakes for dessert. Oh, and red fruit punch.

For some reason, I think crab legs, corn bread and Chardonnay would be a great Valentines Day meal, with some strawberries and chocolate mousse for desert.

Ooooh my goodness, that sounds heavenly! Why wait for another Valentine's Day? Chocolate and seafood is good for ANY day of the year.

Nice setting there, heretoday. I don't need a fire for chocolate and strawberries, though... THAT is good for any time, any setting.

Taggart, I cheat and use the Schilling's stroganoff spice packet; I've never gotten the sauce right on my own. I follow the directions except I substitute mushrooms for meat. My husband is a mushroom-lover, so I use lots, but you can use as many as you like (usually the little brown button mushrooms taste the best, I think, but use what you prefer). I kick up the onion and garlic on my own, and use just a bit more sour cream, to make a bit more sauce and boost the "sour-ness". We have it over steamed rice. If you make a double batch, you'll have another dinner's worth (depending on your family size), and the taste gets even better the next time. Add about 1/4 cup water to it.

This sounds very good. I haven't tried the Schillings yet. I have a good stroganoff recipe that I use (with beef cubes) but it really doesn't make too much. I like the sour cream part of it, too. I've only served it over noodles so far but I guess any kind of pasta would work.

Katharina, please share the stroganoff recipe! I would love to cook Hubbins' stroganoff from scratch!
Noodles are a great accompaniment for stroganoff; he just likes rice better.
