My hubby is just learning to home brew beer! :)

So far he has made about three batches of beer and one batch of hard cider. He is just using pre made worts so far for the beer, but they are turning out great! At least he likes it ... I can't drink any due to the gluten in it.

He made the hard cider from juice and I did try that. It was a little too dry for my tastes.

The last beer he just bottled is a Porter. Very dark and rich smelling.

After he drained off the good beer I sat the left over sludge in the bottom out in the air for a couple of days to remove the alcohol and then fed it to the hens. I figured all of the yeasties would do them some good. They really seemed to like it!

I have that batch of mead slowly mellowing in the cabinet. 2 of the bottles have bail tops and we use one as a taster. Good flavors but it just needs time :D

I have a ton of grapes on my vines so I may give wine a try. Not sure yet.

I am with uncle Joe...just brewed coffee :)

We used to brew beer years ago and it was a really fun thing. Dh has become more of a wine drinker over the years....perhaps a kit would be a good Christmas gift for him.

Enjoy all of your creative brews....BB you be sure that your momma is keepin' an eye on you :p

My parents are doing all the brewing right now. They have grape vines and cherry trees and we picked 6 gallons of blackberrys that went into wine. Cherry is done and it is fabulous! Had so much blackberry that we had to find more jars to let it perk in. It is just about ready, they have strained it into bottles and are letting it "rest" for a while. Just in time to do the grapes soon.

My parents have one of those Jack Lalayne (sp?) juicers and they said they have gotten their money's worth out of the thing just in the wine making. Made the blackberry way easier!!! We pulled all the pulp out and put it in some cheesecloth and let it sit in a bucket overnight and got another 1/2 gallon of juice out of it!

They have a book they use but I'll have to track down the title and author this afternoon.

Here's a pic of the cherry wine....
