Not as bad as the fishmeal. went from $45 to $89 this summer

We bought a 50# bag on 6/17/11...$25.95 and the place we buy it from is cheaper than any place else we've found.

We're discussing growing more sunflowers for our own personal use, too.

I have about 10 growing, but gosh, there must be a zillion sunflowers in each 50 pound bag. Does anyone know how many you'd need to plant to have a years worth for 20 chickens?

I think BOSS prices are very dependent on production levels, sort of like a commodity. Maybe if this year is a good growing season in the midwest, the price will go down a lot this fall. I didn't buy any last winter, but I think we paid about 9.00 for a 25 lb bag the winter before. Being new into chickens, I haven't started feeding BOSS to them yet. That 28.00 is downright scary!
