I know this sounds stupid, believe me I feel stupid asking :p, but:

My little 'experimental, store-in-coop-for-winter' hardy fig tree produced three wee figs about the size of pingpong balls this summer. They are dead-green and not going to ripen (we've already had killing frost, and even in the coldframe, the tree's leaves are dropping) but the kids keep bugging me "Mommy, when are we going to eat them?"

Is there, by any chance, SOMEthing I can do with them -- even if it is just mincing them up and adding to a batch of jam -- that will allow me to say "here, THIS is what we can do with them, seemingly-useless though they are"?

(The fig came thru the winter so well last year, and did so well over the summer, that I am cautiously hopeful I might actually be able to get a few figs to ripen next year; but we'll see)

Thanks for any ideas,

Pat

Unripe figs don't have a lot of flavor and can be bitter. Chicken food? Or if you do decide to mince them, I'd cook them in a light syrup first and then add them. Might kill the bitterness. Good luck with what ever you do!
