After researching some GF options I am finding a lot of foods I have never tried before in recipes.

I have never tried leeks, kale, collards, fennel, sushi, quinoa, millet, amaranth, polenta, kohlrabi, beets (other than pickled) or their greens, goat cheese, truffles, spaghetti squash, jicama, lemongrass, a ridiculous amount of cheese types and countless others.

I am trying to make it a point to include some unfamiliars in my diet now.

So, what foods have you never tried but want to?

I have had most of the above, except the truffles. That I would like to try sometime.
And cheese!!!!! Oh I LOVE our new cheese market. Lots of European cheeses to choose from.
Sadly, they are weeding out all the good raw cheeses :rant

Have you ever watched Bizarre Foods? You can catch it on Netflix.
I have seen so many traditional foods from around the world that I would like to try. Course there were just as many that I would run screaming from, LOL!

I've never tried hawaiian poi....sounds gross but how did all those ancient hawaiians get so fat if it isn't yummy?

I realize I have tried almost everything from your list except millet, collards and truffles.

Leeks are the BEST for making soup....use them like you would onions....what a thing to have never tried....ya gotta make some soup with them! Just slice them up first and then wash them, they grow dirt inside.

Quinoa is supposed to be this wonder health food, but I think it tastes weird.

Lemongrass is in a lot of asian recipes, you have probably eaten it and not realized if you eat in asian restaurants. It has a nice mild flavor.

My mom made all kinds of interesting vegetables for us, so most of those I've tried. My own kids won't sample them however.

I like trying all different kinds of ethnic foods! I'm game for anything! But I'm from L.A. so that is how I grew up eating.

I haven't tried truffles. Never tasted escargot, and really have no intention of doing so, so I guess that doesn't count.

I went to a business dinner at a traditional Japanese restaurant with my dh last night and tried some things I had never had before. One was tiny whole fish on my rice. I kept trying to convince myself that those little brown things did not have eyes -then I found out they did. Fish liver pate and gingko nut were other new ones.

I have never tried my dh's beloved sardines or pickled herring.

Lorihadams- you are missing out! Some of those foods you listed are delicious!

Truffles, but I'd like to. The ones that grow in the ground, of course :p
Raw milk, believe it or not :D And I'm going to.
Most creature from the ocean. And I'm not interested. I do not like most fish or seafood, and certainly anything that has tentacles will not cross my lips :sick
I've never had okra, but it looks interesting.
I've never had anything that ends in -wurst, and I don't think I can go there. It just sounds wrong.

Leeks are one of my favorites Lori! I have a chicken, leek, barley soup posted here somewhere that is our favorite soup recipe. Sometimes I use rice instead of barley. Is barley GF?

I tried jicama and it tasted like dirt to me. Most root type veggies do though.

Hey I just thought of a recipe that I love that you might enjoy - Italian rice balls. They are filled with gooey cheese. There's alot of variations, but they are so yum! They are traditionally rolled in breadcrumbs, but I would think you could roll them in cornmeal or a GF flour substitute easily.

Mmmmmm!! Arancini!!! I grew up in an Italian town and my mom learned to make them from a friend of my dad's who owned a restaurant. The meer thought makes me drool!!!

I have at least tried all of the above. I absolutely agree the quinoa tastes weird. There's really no other way to put it. I've tried several times and each time I just push it away.
I had escargot years ago when a French class went on a field trip to a really nice restaurant. Loved them but haven't had them since.
Let's see, I've never eaten haggis or blood pudding. Never had "Rocky Mountain oysters" or anything in that category. Never eaten goat. Oh! I know, I've never had duck or goose (except pate :( )

Yes- Arancini! I couldn't remember what they were called. Lidia Bostianich does one that is ginormous with a bolognese filling that makes me wanna :drool

I have never had duck or goose either! I can't believe it. :idunno

I've never had empanadas or tamales. But empanadas aren't GF.
