DD found out she will not be able to nurse her baby. She will be put on medication after the baby is born.
So we are looking for the best formula that she would be able to buy. Eventually we hope to feed the baby goat milk. This was one of the reasons I got my goats. But at this point my goats are not producing any milk, we are not even sure they are pregnant (although we REALLY hope so)
I will show DD the formula in NT and the one that BBH posted a link to a little while ago.
I would really like some input. It has been a looong time, since I considered formula. I breastfed my baby for the 1st 9 months, then I gave her formula.

I used a goat milk formula. It was really expensive, but in my opinion definately worth it. He is 4 now and has no allergies to anything, can have lactose, which was a conern for me. But my last was 10 pound 5 ounces, so he just wanted food!!!

I would read the labels carefully if I were you. Most of them are just corn syrup :tongue

I think I will offer to go to a local grocery store, that has lots of organic and whole foods and do some research.
DD is still mostly bedridden. We cannot wait for this baby to come out
I and DD reacted badly to cow milk formula as infants. So I kind of expect this baby to do the same. I opted to give DD soy formula, but knowing what we know now, she does not want to give her baby soy formula.
We are definitely looking into goat milk formula.

And we really hope my goats are pregnant!!!! Even if their babies won't be born til July, it will still be nice to have that good fresh goat's milk for our little guy.

This may come across as really nutters, but any chance you would relactate, to fill the gap till the goats are producing?

Sorry to hear about the situation. :(

I wish I could tell you what formula is best. I had trouble in the beginning and had to give my daughter partly formula, partly pumped milk for a month before I could breastfeed. Neither I nor she did well with cows milk either.

I'm not sure of your daughter's state of mind (I can understand if she'd be mentally/emotionally exhausted) but you may have other options?

Is it ABSOLUTELY necessary that she must have THAT medication, or is there any option at all available as far as treatment? Although ... Part of the problem is simply that almost no medicines are tested to be approved for breastfeeding mothers. Seems it's just not a market pharmaceutical companies are interested in.

And as mentioned, if you could relactate? Maybe I'm unusual, but I produced milk for a LONG time once I got it started, and would sometimes leak for many years. Even now I get a little sore sometimes and wish for a pump.

I also knew a woman who couldn't nurse her baby, from a very allergy-prone family, and she got milk from a friend who had a baby at the same time and pumped extra for her.

If you must make a formula, and want goat milk, can you find safe milk from someone else who has goats? Or possibly buy a goat about to kid or just kidded to have milk as soon as the baby is born?

Or maybe there IS a good formula out there at a health food store that is at least better than what's commercially available. If you have to go that route, I hope you can find something.

Just wanted to toss a few ideas out, because I always feel so badly for mothers who can't breastfeed for whatever reason, since I've btdt.
