My lucky day. Thank you Craigslist. For $25 I picked up both a Porter-Cable A3 locomotive belt sander and a Rockwell/PC 505 half sheet sander. A3 has one messed up brush, 505 had a broken lead in the switch connection. Both running fine now. Feel guilty, almost. Son was selling his deceased cabinet maker father's tools.

A3 is in extremely good shape: chain well greased, no brass color in oil. At some point part of the plastic handle was melted but all metal parts are perfect. I googled "what oil to put in the A3 and how much - fill until up to hole, or what?" and came up empty. Does anybody know what I should put in and how do I tell when I have it full enough?

Thanks in advance for your help

Worm drive oil will work fine.

1. Place the sander on level surface.
2. Remove the oil plug from right side of sander.
3. Ensure the oil is level with the bottom of the hole.
4. If oil is needed , remove the oil plug from the rear of the housing (near the trigger) and add a little
Worm Drive oil.
5. Let any extra oil run out before replacing plugs.
