Didn't I read about a cake or something gooey that called for prune plums recently? I did a search and couldn't find it... but I stuck to the "SS Kitchen" section because of my doeling....If I put "Plum" in the search I'd get a zillion hits about my goat!

So who can tell me where that recipe is? What it is? I can't even remember what it was, I just remember thinking...oh, yum, I wish I had some prune plums! Well, they were on sale and I have some. Help me! It's chilly and I need to bake something....NOW!!!

Please? :D

I keep asking mom for her Pflaumenkuchen recipe and she always answers the same. Just make some yeast dough, roll it out to about an inch or so thickness, press the plums into the dough (skin side down, the plums are cut in half), put lots of butter on it and sprinkle sugar over the plums and bake.
You need to use the italian type (or the plums they use to make prunes) of plums though. The other kinds are too juicy. I am also assuming that you make a sweet yeast dough, not a regular bread dough.
Is this just bread dough with a bit of sweetener in it? Honey/plum bread?

I am guessing it is a sweet yeast dough, like maybe one for a sweet bread.
I'll try and get mom to make it when I visit next week. It is a family favorite after all. I am sure my brother and sister will help me pester her ;)

Here is a link to a german recipe. it has pictures. http://www.chefkoch.de/rezepte/547911152359526/Pflaumenkuchen.html

I printed out one of the recipes. I might try and translate it. But not tonight. ;)

Pflaumenkuchen is made with fresh plums not prunes but I have found you some good recipes for the dried type which I presume is what you have. :drool

Good luck & happy eating.

****** Just for your interest I am adding a recipe for Cock-a-Leekie Soup. which contains prunes. It is an old traditional Scottish recipe. I make it with my own home-bred cockerels & it is totally delicious. Be brave; try it! :D

My plums are fresh, Hattie, they are just the type that commercial prunes are made from.

FD, thanks for the link, even though it is in German! I would've rolled the dough up into a loaf.

My apologies...... I should read more carefully....!!

In which case you might like this one........>>>

The one I used to make had a yeast pastry/cake & I used Switzen plums, but now they are not imported here any more so I have to make do with damsons. Nowadays a lot of recipes use baking powder which is certainly quicker to make but not so tasty in my opinion.

I just checked the recipes Hattie posted. They look pretty much like what mom used to make, without the streusel topping.
Thanks for posting those Hattie. It is easier for me to read the english version too ;) I bookmarked the site, so I can search for other favorites of mine.
