Pretty sure buying, housing and feeding chickens is going to cost a lot more than $4/dozen. Or like someone on BYC said, the first dozen costs $2,000, but the rest are all free!
Same here. Torrential downpours last night, then off and on rain all day today. I was really lucky to find two non-rainy moments to let my dogs outside before and after they ate their breakfast. And a mostly not raining 1/2 hour to do my chicken chores.
Then I had another rain free half hour in...
No problem. 2 of each and 1 on the fence, sounds like a normal ratio now. I don’t know when saddle feathers come in. I would think before 12 weeks. But it probably depends on the individual chicken.
Ok, here is what I see now:
#1, I couldn’t really tell before and I still can’t 😂
#2, I wasn‘t sure before, but now I am sure, it’s a girl. 😊
#3, Still a boy.
#4, Draco who crowed 🤪
#5, Thought she was a girl before, and I still do, but what is that dark patch on her wing? If it’s red, then...
You had a chick named Dianna?!! That is my name! (Except with only 1 n.) I say you should recycle the name for your next pullet. 😂
And NOT name the cockerel after me, just cuz I called it! 😳
With a silver Sebright mother, she will only give her silver gene to her sons. Whether the daughters get a silver or gold gene depends on the father. Is your Sebright hen silver or gold? What about the Cubalaya?
While the chick in the first photo looks feminine to me, it also seems to have...
Well I just went back and looked, and before #1 was a grey chick! These two recent pictures look like maybe #s 3&4?
When you get a chance, post all 5 again:)
I agree with @farmerjan . #4 has male color in his wings. I can’t see any of that in #1, so maybe maybe not. I need to go back and look at my guesses from last time you posted. Assuming you kept their numbers the same.
I would imagine that if she has been separated from the flock for a period of time, she will have lost status and may experience an attitude adjustment. But, yeah, it sounds like you have done enough gradual integrating. Time to let her loose and see how she does.
What you describe doesn’t sound so bad to me. I would just let them all be together and work it out for themselves. A peck as the chick walks by is not the same as if she were hunting them down and trying to kill them.
I was going to mention cake mix too. Because I’ve had some that were past their date, and when I opened them, they smelled kind of musty. I cooked one anyway just to see if it would be ok, and yup, the cake smelled bad too. Now I try to use cake mixes up well before their date, and pretty much...

What is 2 way? (I tried Google, but “2 way feed” wasn’t enough to go on.) And 14% is low for chickens, not to mention it’s formulated for cattle. @baymule has used a multipurpose feed for all her different animals with success. Maybe she has input on whether 14% cattle feed is close enough...
Ok, fingers crossed that I’m wrong! 😬 it is after all, kind of early to know. But I’ll tell my guesses, and in a few weeks, we should be able to tell better.
I think #5 is the only pullet. ☹️
Mostly I say this because of comb size, but #3 and #4 also have the red wing patch thing going on, so...
Boy, you sure got them from the right place! Pre-loved kittens!
I would have to look up how far a cat’s territory stretches. I would imagine there are feral cats just about everywhere that your neighbors don’t actually own. However, I would also think that they would see them once in a while...
Post their photos! Can’t hurt to try. I can often sex my backyard mixes by 3-4 weeks, but it really depends what they’re a mixture of. Pea comb chicks can be the hardest, unless they have cockerel color patterns.
