PERFECT!! I snagged a photo and sent it to my daughter. They have an area that's washing out in the lane to their house. This would be a perfect solution for them.
Thanks for all the images. I love looking at them! And I wish I had half of those trees. It's pretty bare out here.
Britesea listed what I was thinking!
Our oldest son has taken two wilderness survival classes, plus first responder wilderness. He's taken teens through the backwater parts of India where they lived on the land or stayed in small villages where there was no electricity. I was amazed at the...
hahahahaha
I have 5 binders of varying thickness at this point, most with recipes. I just grabbed one that has:
All kinds of cleaning recipes, including ones that I don't use now. You never know what you're going to have available if the worst-case scenario hits or you are doing the eco...
I'm trying to use up some...ahem... older things from the freezer. So we had cheese ravioli with sauce that included some smoked sausage and vegetarian meatballs. lol
Ditto on the :yuckyuck
Thanks for doing the search on the 'household milk'. I was guessing it was the powdered stuff, but didn't take the time to check it out.
"British Restaurants were communal kitchens created during the Second World War, and were mainly set up to ensure communities and people who had run out of rationing coupons were still able to eat. However, in large towns and cities they became invaluable for office workers as well as all the...

"Curious as to what (during rationing in WW2) people slathered their spuds in, I delved into ‘Feeding the Nation’ by Marguerite Patten OBE. Heinz Salad Cream became a wartime favourite like any convenience food was often in limited supply so many...
:yuckyuck No more than others that are here, I'm sure!
I thought of something else that may have been mentioned...
Unless you're lucky enough to live in a place where you can grow food 12 months out of the year, then a few extra steps are necessary at this point. I'm a firm believer that almost...
Agree 100%. The only thing I'd add is to plant fruit bearing trees and bushes, have a medicinal herb patch and print off recipes and instructions right now for how to treat various ailments with those plants (like how to use Hawthorn for high blood pressure, etc). You might not have power later...
Catching my breath is my biggest enemy. Try exercising with a clothespin on your nose and breathing through a straw, that'll give you an idea of what COPD'ers have. So for me, everything is slow-go, dammit.
We have a Fisher-Paykel, a Danish made machine. Totally awesome, uses less water, spins clothes so dry it takes half the time in the dryer. The pump went out once, $80 on Ebay for the new one, Bill swapped it out in just a few minutes. He said it was the easiest repair he had done on anything.
This sounds so silly.... don't over load your washing machine, it will last longer.
We've been married 47 years, 3 kids, a brother in law a couple times, so plenty of dirty laundry. In all of those years, I've had a total of 3 washing machines, all of them used. And the first two were...
Oh, we don't have any outdoor critters anymore. My chickens always free ranged all day as long as weather permitted. I'd throw out a bit of grain first thing in the morning and that was pretty much it until the weather changed enough where they needed layer feed. It's bug central out here. I...
This ^^^^^^. Ditto. Bill and I have talked about one of us kicking the bucket before the other and expectations. I want him to sell this place ASAP, move to our daughter's little town, don't grieve too long and get on with living and being happy. Buying another place out in the country probably...
