I'd like to learn to tan and preserve animals hides.
And how to use a tool other than a hammer and screwdriver.
I would also like to learn how cars work, so I could do more of my own mechanic stuff. I know how to change the oil and change a flat tire, but that's about it. Good thing I have...
Oh, no hard feelings. Just throwing my two cents in. :) I agree, parents need to play just as much (if not more) a role in the education of their children as do the teachers.
Not having time for your children or wanting more money are not necessarily reasons people choose to have their children go to public school. For example, public schools offer great programs, such as choir or football & children learn how to work with other people in group settings, are exposed...
I don't think it is necessarily about how wealthy you are either (great post BTW Icu). I have many low income friends who act the same way. Too poor to pay for their own groceries, but they have cell phones and computers w/ high speed internet, and don't forget cable. They would never plant a...
The lyme disease tick is a deer tick (at least in our area), very tiny, and most people don't even know they have one in them til they see the bullseye. If she develops flu-like symptoms, she should see the doc.
Is there a little dark spot where the tick was? You can pull it out with a...
Lesa, our chickens love tomatoes! They always look forward to the scraps. :)
There is also a yellow lab that comes to our place. Though it annoys me that the owner lets him run loose, he is a very sweet dog, and has never even looked at the chickens. If I ever get a dog, it's going to be a...
I'm in Wisconsin zone 4, and use cold frames. They do work nicely for things like lettuce, cabbage, carrots--cool weather crops.
Here is a pic of one of ours. Hubby found some free windows, and build a wooden frame to fit it. We can take the window off during the day if it gets warm.
Excellent idea SD, I had my phone in my pocket, I should have taken their pictures! Hopefully, they don't come back, but if so, I'm going to do that next time. Chicken is still with us, and I think she's been improving. I'm still hand-feeding her, but she's been moving around more now. Thank...
Oh my goodness! :lau If they had only known.
You know, my grandma told me that when she was a kid, they used to have trucks driving around that would spray DDT everywhere. She said her and her sisters used to run in the mist behind the trucks. "We thought is was great!" she said. My...
I have been sprouting wheat to grind into flour for recipes, but being a working mom, I don't always have time to do this ('specially since I have a hand-crank mill). So I decided to try a bread recipe that involves soaking the flour first to see how it would work out.
From...
I don't know how you can seperate out the darker color. I have found that beeswax can darken as it ages, though I'm not sure how old the wax is that you are getting? I think color variations can also occur based on the bees' diets. I always see on the packages of beeswax that I get something...
In hind-sight, I probably should have tried to contain them until the cops got there--though I have no leashes and am not sure where I would have put them. I also wasn't sure if they were friendly or not. My adrenaline was through the roof, so I just acted right away and chased them off. I am...
Thank you everyone for all the advice and ideas! :hugs Last night I was short on time, so I just added some water to her feed until it was soupy and kind of had to force feed her with a dropper. I had to make her drink as well--I think she is very dehydrated. But, she's still alive and...
She has refused food so far, but I am going to try and get her to eat again when I get home. I am thinking of mixing her feed with water and seeing if she'll take that. They absolutely love worms, so maybe I could tempt her with one? I'm hoping she'll eat something, because you can tell she's...
