Denim Deb Hay, hay, hay. Thank the Lord!

Good that you have a backup plan if things don't get better at the farm.

I'm with you on needing a list to get stuff done. I gotta have a list for everything. Errands, grocerys, to-do around the house. I'm a bit forgetful so it helps me stay on task plus I always feel so accomplished when checking things off my list. I gotta say that's a big list. Good thing you get...

Jess172 journal: I want to do it all!

My ducklings came in this morning! I'm loving them!:love They are so friendly and don't seem scared at all. Here is the Rouens in the brooder: I'm going to have to find some rocks today to put in their water so they will quit stepping in it. I knew this ahead of time but got too excited...

Jess172 journal: I want to do it all!

What kind of ducks are you hatching? I'm gonna start my ducklings the same way I did the chicks, in the baby brooder tote. I'm sure they will out grow it much faster than the chicks did so ill probably try to work on their grow out pen this weekend. It's supposed to be nice this weekend but I've...

Jess172 journal: I want to do it all!

Here's what came in this morning: :love These are my last batch of chicks that I have coming from hatcheries. I got pearl white leg horns, golden polish and a mystery chick. Here's the mystery one: Someone on BYC suggested silver sebright bantam. Looks pretty close. What do y'all think...

Jess172 journal: I want to do it all!

I'm pretty sure they are going to be white silkies. Like frustratedearthmother said they have 5 toes and black skin. They are a really light color, even though they look yellowish in the pic. Which would be great if I'm right because i was really wanting some silkies, but there were never any...

Jess172 journal: I want to do it all!

We had three nice days at the beginning of the week and then two full days of storms. Now it's quit storming but not as warm as it was at the first of the week. I went from wearing short sleeves, to a rain coat and now back to long sleeves. Guess I can't complain too much. I'd rather have...

Jess172 journal: I want to do it all!

We made a window on the back side and have been cracking the door and opening the window for air circulation. No problems with birds getting in so far but I'll keep in mind the using the chicken wire in case they start. :)

More on the chickens: So I ended up with a total loss so far of 3. I lost one to pasty butt and the other two just got weak and wouldn't eat or drink. Not sure what happened there but all the others are doing great. Here is their pics at one week old: I separated them into two brooders...

Whoops. It's a brand of electrolyte powder that you mix with water. Shoulda put that to begin with but sometimes what's in my head doesn't translate when I'm typing.

Jess172 journal: I want to do it all!

Thanks! I'll keep in mind the sugar water. By the time I found out she had it she was already so weak she wouldn't drink. I tried giving her some save a chick water in a medicine dropper but it didn't work. I'm not having trouble with pasty butt anymore though I'm still keeping a close eye on...

Jess172 journal: I want to do it all!

Oh I'm so glad we don't have bears in my area. Supposedly there has been one seen on some trail cams in the next county over but it's not been confirmed. Yes, everyone hunts everything where I live. It's one reason I'm getting Rouen ducks instead of mallards. They wouldn't make it through...

Jess172 journal: I want to do it all!

I think there's too many hunters around here for them to be a problem in my area. I have fears of having a protected species making its home on my property. If they become a problem, there is nothing you can do about it. Although to be fair a bald eagle would be much less trouble than say bats...

I hope so. They're fun to watch.

Lol nah I wouldn't wanna fight them for my chickens. I'm already going to have trouble with the coyotes. Atleast I can get after those with my shotgun.
