Good lord it has been forever...just thought I would post an update. Been busy, had a predator wipe out all 27 of our meat chickens last night so I am trying to figure out what is killing them all. We got several free roosters and they were all killed the first night. These guys had been out...
grab a handful of broad leafed plaintain leaves and chew them into a paste, try to keep as much of the saliva in your mouth as possible, spit the whole wad of leaves and saliva out and place it onto the sting site. It really does work....I got stung in the cheek yesterday and it has helped a lot.
Got rid of the puppy....yay! Chad's cousin took it and now we are hermit crab sitting for a friend. Bee meeting tonight. Bees are doing okay but not much to report. My nuc is making a new queen so hopefully they will make it but I don't know.
Garden is doing well...still doing some staggered...
just did DS's testing for the year...our school system requires "proof of progress" every year. This is the first year he has had to be tested and since this is the first test he has ever taken I am generally pleased. We used the ITBS.
I took him to the library conference room and the first...
Gosh it's been a while....let's see. Got my shots for my back and feel much better, hatched 7 indian runner babies from our incubator before the bulb blew while I was out at a chicken swap and the remaining eggs are pretty much a bust, dark brahma hatched out 6 babies of her own, two white does...
Thanks guys...she's awesome! Her mama is doing great too...yesterday I caught Lizzie inside the hay rack...WISH I had had my camera for that one! Goat kids get in the most interesting places!
We had another race yesterday morning and then a friend brought his daughter over all afternoon, we went to a local feed store's farm day, and then to a birthday party. I didn't want to get up when the alarm went off this morning but I have been separating Lizzie at night and milking in the...
Hey...you used the watusi pic! I took some of my new babies and though I would give you some new ones since nobody has submitted anything new in a while.
"Hey mom, give me some!"
"king of the mountain"
"Little Lizzie"
I peeked at the hive with the Old queen and she is laying and the bees are flying pretty well and taking sugar water. I haven't opened it up again cause it has just been too cold lately. I'm hopeful that the numbers in that hive will increase to my liking but since we have the whole summer to go...
The weather was a fluke....the day before it was 75 and sunny and had been in the mid to upper 70s all week long. Saturday night the temps dropped 25 degrees and it started raining but because there is so much involved in the race with setting up the obstacles and stuff there is no rain date...
This past weekend we had the Muddy Buddy race at a local state park...our team name was Grossly Inappropriate. You had to go through an obstacle course and then finish by crawling through a mud pit. It would have been fabulous except that Saturday night the temperature dropped 25 degrees and it...
Nice! I love those cages! We are hoping to do something like that but put it in the chicken run so they can clean up any feed that falls through. Right now we have 17 babies and 6 parent stock (4 does and 2 bucks) with 2 mamas nursing and 2 of the girls hopefully pregnant!
We took her out into the pasture today again and she was popping around like popcorn! I love babies!!! and the bunnie babies are getting big enough now to try and venture out of the nesting boxes some and they are cute too...
today I have been cleaning like a madwoman for company coming this...
*hugs* too....I'm happy when hubby does side work to make extra money but I'm not happy about him not being here in order to do it. I miss him, the kids miss him, and we are generally grumpy too. :hugs
If you want to see everything from last year I have a beekeeping journal in this section for 2011 with tons of pics Avalon!
This morning I checked on my split that I made Sunday...finally got the weather to cooperate. I ended up moving my existing queen along with 2-3 frames of brood in...
Okay...I've been busy with babies everywhere and neglecting the beekeeping thread. Here are instructions for making a split:
Here's Doug's directions for making a split...if you see that the hive is making swarm cells this is an awesome opportunity to make a split and keep them from swarming...
I find stickers in the darnedest places sometimes...my husband looked at me all funny once and started laughing. I was like "what?" and he says "nice nipple"...my son had put a sticker on my boob right where my nipple would be...like a star or something...hubby got a good laugh about it.
I...
we put her out in the pasture for about 30 minutes of supervised time with mama and the other does. My other two does, one pregant (hopefully) and one not are head butting like crazy so I sat in the pasture with them to make sure she didn't get hurt. I think she was glad to be back in the...
