Well the lard was a gift from my sil who had 2, 4h pigs processed. I couldn't really be specific about leaf vs normal. Last year I had the same problem.
I have access to a grinder for my kitchen-aid this year. Last year I cut by hand. Should the lard be thawed or frozen for grinding?
I...
Wow this thread is old. I have a couple questions. So I'm going to revive it!!
I have rendered lard before. I used the crock pot method. Worked fine in small batches. I need to make some room in the freezer before Thanksgiving. So I want to get going on this.
This year I have the lard...
Threads not entirely dead. I'm still working on my bourbon reds. I have 4 bird hatched last December. The will be butchered in a mint or so. One more Tom hatched in March. I took the three hens hatched at the same time to my aunt in Mo. My yards were getting a bit crowded.
Thinking about...

I just did a search on "lard press" and sure enough yours came up. I am looking for one locally, not a realistic goal in Southern Ca. But I have found many on e bay.
Just wondering if you have used it for lard yet.

I pretty much live in a good size city. So every week I look over the sale adds. I buy seasonally and sales for canning. I have seen green beans as low as 99 cents per pound at my health food store. I think if you were buying in bulk from a farmer they would be cheaper.
Prices do seem to...
I canned corn for the first time this year. I bought from my local health food store twice. 6 ears for a buck. With 36 ears I canned 24 pints. Worked out at about 25 cents per pint. Not bad. Canned corn cost a minimum of 68 cents when you can get it on sale. We don't eat corn too often so...
Your so kind. I actually did a search locally this morning. I don't think they are something I'm going to find locally.
:lau

Ok quick question. These glass lids don't fit standard ball or mason jars do they???
Oh thank you so much for all the pictures. I love looking at the older jars. I have many that are garage sale finds. Not sure if their age but I still use most of them.
I would love to use/have glass lids. They are just beautiful.
Hummm now I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for Gem...
I have read that you should keep a tally for 1 month . write down everything you use. start building your supply by buying 1 or 2 extra of every item . this should get you to a 3 month supply . then build up from there to 1 years worth . this works great for things like condiments and...
I love the pantry pic!! Mine is filling quickly as well. :D
So back up a minute to the pics of your canned goods. I love the square pints. I have a few of those myself. I have also heard you talk about the glass top jars. I thought you were talking about the ones with metal locking lids...
Bee, this is something most of us are striving to still learn!!!
BB the pantry looks great. I love to see the shelves filling. Such a feeling of satisfaction.
