I missed all the drama that precipitated the fallout and the departure of some of our friends. I wish they would come back. I don't know who said what or what was said but I wish you all would get over it and move on.
I'm bummed because my favorite thread on BYC got shut done for what the...
Whoa, slow down. I think a couple of you should go back and self edit before this thread gets shut down. Rob asked for construction not destruction. Quit attacking each other.
Store what you eat and eat what you store.
Some things to consider:
What will you do if you lose electricity?
Learn about root cellaring. It sounds simple but there are things to consider.
One deer won't fill a freezer.
Don't go overboard and acquire more than you can use in one to two years...

Marinate overnight in Italian dressing little pieces of meat.
Drain off the dressing.
Cook in Worcester sauce stirring often until the liquid cooks off.
I'm sure there is a thread or two out there with deer recipes but I didn't want to spend all night looking for them.
Got a small button buck opening day. I usually skin my deer, gut them, and then get the tenderloin out and head for the kitchen. I have always been disappointed because that...
I've had milk jugs break. The plastic isn't designed to last and milk gets in the pores. If you don't clean a milk jug real good and add some bleach you could end up with sour milk tasting water.
We aquired a newer larger one with a removeable insert (casserole dish type thing). I'm cooking a venison neck roast on low right now and it is boiling at the edges. The original crockpots with the integrated ceramic liner wouldn't do that. Yes, it's easy to burn things in the newer ones. I...
Fresh roadkill is cheap.
Check out the hunting and recipe sections for people food. I have a venison neck roast soaking in buttermilk right now. Tomorrow it goes in the slow cooker with some onion, salt, and pepper. I might cook it in apple or cranberry juice to see what happens.
You need to seal up those air leaks before you do anything else. You are going to keep heating the outdoors if you don't.
Fireplaces are not efficient. I would install an insert or stove but you have to look at it as a long term investment. Quality is not cheap.
It goes in cycles. For a while we had a rash of highly charged political threads. We have had spurts of threads with a survivalist bent. We have had modern medicine is bad. Hang around, whatever your flavor is it will probably come back.
