CC, you might have 3 colors there. If you look closely, some edges of the green leaves in the back are edges with a darker green while the ones in front don't have the edging. I've had red and yellow crosses before making some really pretty oranges. I can't find a picture of that right now, but...
If you're talking about the picture of the week, it's usually every week, but Sumi is recovering from surgery. She'll catch up when she can. Keep submitting pictures. Sometimes they'll come up again weeks later on a week when people are busy and don't get anything posted. :)
I love your attitude, PJ. Like most of us, setbacks and delays are a part of the story. You seem to just pick right back up from each setback, and you've got a lot to show for this year, setbacks, health issues, and falls included. Thanks for the pictures and updates! Even with all you've had...
I was thinking Cana lily too. In Wisconsin, ours had to be dug up every year, although here they stay in the ground. You might be able to get away with a very thick layer of mulch. My Dad dug his up, let the roots dry out, and kept them in the cellar for the winter, then replanted them each...
Thanks, @Beekissed. I DID get those steps for free, and we took the full sized steps off and made them perches instead. They work great. The youngest chickens are usually relegated to those perches for the night.
That's great, Clucky. You'll fit right in here!
My son helped me build our current coop. It's large and airy (12'x 22'), and is attached to the end of the shop. Almost all of it was free or greatly reduced. The nursery panels were 75 or 80% off and the windows were from a thrift shop. The...
Who wouldn't love a room like that top one?? I love all that light! That's going to be a problem in our shop. There's just not much light unless the big door is wide open. I'll have to see if we can add more lights.
I'll be checking these out tonight. Thanks @Beekissed !
Thanks @Mini Horses. Didn't you see the shop vac?? (Me either, but "it's in there.".. Sounds like an old Ragu commercial:lol:) But great idea to have handy. I'll add it to the list to have available. We DO have one...
Hi Patricia!
I used to live in Western Washington too, and LOVE it out there (we were on the Olympic Peninsula for 8 years. It's absolutely beautiful there.) I still have family out there. I'm out that way every other year or so.
We're also looking at getting bees (that was supposed to be...
Thanks for the great reply @HomesteaderWife . He's been sick, and still working full time, so he had kind of shelved the shop idea. I don't think he's been in there to actually do anything in months (and YES, this has been a HOT summer and fall here.) So, he doesn't know where anything is. I...
@Britesea , that's FUNNY!
But, that being said, IS it possible that you could harvest it?? Plants like thistle with long roots often bring up nutrients deep down in your soil, and also bust up the ground for other plants. I've been watching some videos recently that are changing my ideas about...
@Beekissed and @farmerjan, I appreciate both viewpoints. I do not have the long term experience of either of you.
@farmerjan, I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience with free ranging! Where you free ranged your chickens, was it mostly open land where eagles had easy access? (I'm from dairy...
When we bought the property, we envisioned a large garden and fruit trees (which we've since established). He didn't have a real shop before, but has always wanted one. He HAS worked with wood on and off through the years, and has always enjoyed that. We wanted to eventually set up the shop for...
Hi All,
We have a 2 1/2 stall "shop".
We started setting it up as a shop, but 2 years of illness, and a bad roof on another shed temporarily forced everything into the shop. Right now it's being used as storage for EVERYTHING (motorcycle, bikes, tools, lawnmowers, weedeaters, chain saws...
My dad's 20 foot flagpole was made as a lever also. He had metal instead of PVC and wood. If I remember correctly, the center pole was about 3 1/2 -4" in diameter. The side posts were similar to I beams, with flat sides on each side of the center pole (think of an I beam, but with the top and...
