Thanks @Mini Horses. Didn't you see the shop vac?? (Me either, but "it's in there.".. Sounds like an old Ragu commercial:lol:) But great idea to have handy. I'll add it to the list to have available. We DO have one...

Who wouldn't love a room like that top one?? I love all that light! That's going to be a problem in our shop. There's just not much light unless the big door is wide open. I'll have to see if we can add more lights.
I'll be checking these out tonight. Thanks @Beekissed !

Maybe that should be one of the first things to do there....put in some big windows with lots of ventilation for piping out dust and sawdust. I'm sure in all your blessings from God that He will provide some used windows for just that purpose...He always knows what you need before you need it, doesn't He?

Eli and I were discussing our shed and how limited it is for space and light. We are thinking about enclosing one end of the wood shed addition so he can have a wood shop/forge area and put a big sliding barn door on it so it can be opened in the summer months to let in more light and air.

Loved the work bench build video. Why is it that a lot of women are afraid of woodworking? I say: "Power tools are the great gender equalizer." Note her body mechanics throughout that vid. I couldn't find anything wrong with her movement patterns as she did the lifting required!

Over the years I found only one thing that I like in a shop, tall ceilings. You just can't swing long lengths of lumber around in a shop with low ceilings. I can't begin to tell how many light bulbs I've broke swinging boards around.

My shop is anywhere my tools are really the building doesn't matter much to me unless its raining.

I've been in wood shops that are so clean and organized that I wonder if any wood working ever goes on in there. Then I've been in shops just the opposite where it appears unorganized and there is sawdust all over. My shop fits in the later category. If you walked into my shop you wouldn't be able to find anything, but I know were everything is and it's placed there so I can work proficiently.

My shop pretty much stays messy. The only time I clean it is when I'm done with a project. Back to back to back projects unless you cone in where I just finished and am beginning to start a new one it's messy. Yes I actually do woodworking in my shop :)

new LED 4ft lights. not that expensive. will pay for themselves eventually and the light is bright and great for being able to see what you're doing. perhaps too good in some cases... i dislike the hum of flourescent lights. LEDs are quiet.

warm enough. i do not want to be cold while trying to figure something out or trying to get a finish right when the paint won't set up right or things freeze.

not having to work on something by laying on a blanket over snow/slush, etc.

i am ok with it being quiet, but some people will appreciate music. you don't need a big stereo, but a few nice small speakers can work well enough.

I need a she shed. My messy ADD personality is constantly colliding with hubby's neat-"everything in it's place" management styles. If I designed a shop, it would have LOTS of peg board for the small hand tools. There would be shelves for all the power tools. Table saw and miter saw would be set up to be easily used without having to move them. There would be plenty of room for saw horses and a full size sheet of plywood. And, the shop would NOT be sharing space with cars. There would be several lumber racks, so building supplies could be stored and accessed easily.

Yep... LEDs are awesome they are tough enough to take a bump without breaking. Fluorescents on the other hand, rain down glass.
