kind of like a taco bar, you could do a baked potato bar. Offer lots of toppings- bacon, chili, cheese, broccoli, green onions or chives, sour cream, salsa, etc. Not necessarily low-carb, but grain-free and inexpensive!
I've seen several versions of a little girl dress from a man's button down shirt:

We've got a case of peach leaf curl on our big peach tree. :( We may not get any fruit off of it this year, and are hoping the tree can survive. Any advice?
It is funny to me that people in general seem to be so concerned about how homeschooled kids will do on standardized tests. Here are some numbers for you.
There are 4.7 million public school kids in CA. In 2010, 43% of all 11th graders scored proficient or above on English Language Arts in the...
lol, ever heard of a field trip? Vacation days?
We do our fair share of book/computer work, but in my opinion there is a whole world out there that you can never fully understand just by reading about it in a book and then filling out a worksheet. Some families like to create lesson plans based...
Back to the original question...:)
Here is something else I love about homeschooling- the freedom to travel!
I can pack up my kids and take them to the beach any darn day I feel like it! We can go to Disneyland on a Wednesday in May if we feel like it. When my parent's goats are kidding 2...
We walked to a restaurant for dinner instead of driving. :P I thought the restaurant had a kids eat free on Tuesdays but they didn't. Bummer. Food was really good though. Gas is at $4 per gallon now, and the weather is beautiful, so may as well walk as much as possible.
I call them 72-hour kits. Every member of my family has a packed backpack in an easily accessible place. We could grab them and be out the door in a matter of minutes. Once or twice a year we go through the backpacks and replace things that are outdated (expired food, clothes we've outgrown) and...
Yeah, I had a polish once. She was SO loud. She did lay fairly well, little pointy eggs. I "donated" her to my mom's flock last summer. My mom called me, perturbed, yesterday and told me the Polish (who never would stay in her huge chicken coop) had been sneaking in to the milking parlor and...
We donated through Red Cross because dh's employer matched all donations. If we hadn't done that, we would have donated through our church, which uses 100% of donations for those in need- not deducting anything for administration needs...
But not all public schools even have these things. You would think they do, but some just don't.
We've "homeschooled" for 3 years. Technically, my kids "go" to a public charter school independent study program. There are also virtual academies and private school independent study options...
Yes, heating it that high would be a waste of expensive raw millk.

I planted tomatoes this weekend, and harvested broccoli and cauliflower. Anyone want some bok choy? We are nearly sick of it.
One of my plum trees is blooming! I am very excited for that.
My celery is doing well. I've never grown it before, so who knows.
So far in 2011 I've harvested 130...
