I haven't read many books on SS, but I did read and really enjoyed John Seymour's book. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life Barbara Kingsolver www.animalvegetablemiracle.com/ was also a very interesting and inspiring read. Highly recommended!
@hqueen13 I would roast the chicken and use the leftovers for sandwich fillings, pies, salad... Chicken is so versatile, there are loads you can do with it.
To save on your grocery bill and time.. What I did when I was working, managing stuff on our farm and raising a small child, to save time...
Goodness, FEM, that is scary! And that is why I won't leave anything going when I'm out or sleeping. Too paranoid. (Even though all the appliances in the house was brand new when I moved in)
Cape Gooseberries! :) I didn't know they were called Ground Cherries too. In Afrikaans they are called Appeliefie (Translation: Appel - Apple; Liefie - Lovey) Such a cute name!
We had loads of them in South Africa and the make the most heavenly jams/jellies :drool They are also very good to eat...
