I had to throw out eight tray of moldy, rancid fodder today.
It seems that just about every fodder growing blogger grows fodder in his/her laundry room, so I set my trays in there, too.
I have the dehumidifier running constantly, which blows out more heat into an already hot room.
I...
I bought it on Amazon, so no dealer to talk with. If it can't fit in the back seat of my car, I order things on Amazon so delivery is not a problem.
Someday, I will have a pickup truck.
OK, I know everything is made up of elements, so everything is made up of chemical compounds and whatnot. :)
I am trying to keep my sheep healthier without developing parasite resistance to traditional wormers.
It is a new machine, and other than attaching the wheels with the lynch pins and bolting the handles in the correct positions, it was ready to go. The directions made it look a lot more complicated, but we decided that there must be a second model that requires more assembly.
Here's a...
It is a Southland SRTT196E rear tine tiller.
Thanks for asking, BeeKissed. It's getting a bit late, so I will try to get back to the fodder questions tomorrow.
Do any of you kind folks know anything about dosing sheep with DE? I am looking into non-chemical wormers, but haven't found much about proper dosing levels.
Thanks!
Does anybody living in the Midwest really manage to grow mold-free fodder?
Every time I think I have the right levels of water, air circulation, and humidity, the mold comes back. :he
Thanks for the advice. I had tried googling, but no such luck. I tried using it again today, but it kept sputtering out after I started it. I hope it just needs more gas!
There are so many deer who head into his fields for a buffet every evening that I doubt he would miss the few nibbles my girls managed to take.
Actually "he" is an assumption on my part. I don't actually know who farms the acreage near us. I was told someone rented the land to work it, but...
So my fodder is coming along pretty well. I had to revamp some of my system today, but I think it will sprout better. I am noticing a small amount of white mold on the fodder that is almost ready. I already have a dehumidifier taking a significant amount of water out of the air, but I suppose...
BeeKissed, your advice is very sound and I thank you for it.
We keep Finnish Landrace sheep. I chose them because I do use the wool (albeit not for spinning yet, as I had originally planned, but for stuffing handmade dolls), they are very friendly (even the rams are very sweet-tempered)...
:D
Thank you! The picture is of Patches and Polly, born June 12th this year. They were surprises we found out in one of the grazing pens that day.
We mainly keep the sheep for grazing, but I do shear the wool and use the good portions for stuffing dolls. I have a spinning wheel but have...
I totally need to make this fodder system work. My poor sheep are not doing well. They are so thin and I can worm them only so much before the warmers are rendered ineffective. I only have six right now and dh keeps telling me to sell four of them, but I wouldn't want to sell them the way...
As for overwhelmingly supported idea of list-making, I have been a list-maker since I was old enough to write. I have lists going all over the house. As a homeschooling mama, I have about 15 notebooks devoted to my projects along with their accompanying lists. Curriculum to use, curriculum to...
Goodness! I didn't think there would be so many responses on the journal of a newbie member. Thank you for the advice and encouragement.
The past couple of days, I have been trying to set up a fodder system in the lower level of our house. We have a little room lovingly referred to as the...
This is exactly why I don't want to use electric at all. We lost a lamb who got tangled up, strangled, and nearly decapitated herself in electric fencing. Unfortunately, it was one of the kids who found her. :(
I love the cement block idea. I will definitely give that a try!
I will have to take a look at augers. How strong do I physically need to be to handle one of those puppies? We have heavy clay soil. I have read that sometimes augers can't work through it very effectively, so I am hesitant.
