My acid test for milk (or 1/2 and 1/2) is to pour a small amount into a coffee cup, and add hot coffee to it. If it curdles or even looks like runny cheese, I toss it. Otherwise, I know it's still good.
I know that I quoted this on an earlier post, but I wanted to give you some encouragement, and a few tips.
Replant. Check this out~

You can't without a small tractor. I have 5 acres, and the wheelbarrow thing doesn't cut it. Good...
DH's Law Office produces a lot of paper waste, and we have to be careful about keeping any duplicates with errors. I rip in half any mistakes, so we can tell the difference.
We do two things with it:
1) put down in the garden to fight weeds
2) burn in the burn pile
In the "Kitchen" area, I...
Have you thought of "double-bagging"? This is what I do when I freeze vegetables to keep out freezer burn. I portion out what I freeze, then defrost in the refridgerator the day before I want to serve it. :D
Thank you, everyone, for your input! :hugs
I hadn't THOUGHT of THAT!!! :bun
Absolutely!!
Thanks!! This has been like a shot in the arm, or like drinking a whole pot of coffee!! DH and I are planning for it as we drive together. I know where a few hard to sell items can be sold if WE...
I am more than super-excited about an upcoming garage sale. To call it that is probably not correct, but here's what's happening. DH's office "Strip Mall" is planning a Labor Day Saturday garage sale. There 6/7 suites (businesses) participating. The mall is one-story, and we have 40...
I disagree. :/
YES, I have bought packages of seeds that didn't grow. But everytime I had a vegetable do really well, and saved the seed, the NEXT generation grew really well and produced really well.
I have read and heard that if you save your seeds every year, you will develop types that are...
THAT is your first problem. The three biggest feeder crops are tobacco, corn and cotton. The "Old South" practically destroyed all of the topsoil growing them. But I think I can help!! :D
My grandfather had to, by necessity, become a master gardener during the Depression. He lived in...
I agree.
I think you need to be very tricky. Is there ANYBODY you know that she WOULD approve of taking Scotty, who could "foster" the dog, and then let you re-home her?
This woman is a certifiable idiot. I've met a few of these. One that I met lived on a farm, found a cat she didn't want...
Since we are taking about vinegar, I was wondering if you agree with what I have heard--most commercial vinegars are pastuerized, which takes the good bacteria out of them. Is this true? I'm confused...:hu
Make some "Lemonade" out of this. Harvest them, chop them up and cook them down in water and make bug spray for your other vegetables.
Lots of healthy tomato volunteers sprang up this year. One was so big that I just HAD to transplant it, and it's the first to have green fruit on it! :weee
Thanks for posting the link. I am stocking up on canned goods as well as tending my garden this year. Although we ALL AGREE that home grown and home canned is the healthiest, you can wash the salt out of canned vegetables if you like. I've got my Sharpies to mark the expiration dates so...
The ONLY thing I think that I would do is to take a soil sample to your local extension office and have it tested. Good luck--it DOES suck when your stuff doesn't grow!! :hugs
It could be that you are over-fertilizing. Compost is a constant-feed fertilizer. Plants need a break from eating, too. Maybe you are burning out your crops?!? :/ Is the "natural" fertilizer Miracle-Gro? That's made in the lab by mixing chemicals and it doesn't last more than a few months...
I don't know that I've bought from a CSA, but I know of small farmer's markets that sell at their locations AND are on my way home from work (alternative route.) When you budget your food, you have to take into account the cost of gas for your car, too. I took the survey. I am more interested...
Turning out the lights when you leave the room helps, too. SURPRISINGLY, when the economy was good (when I was a kid) my PARENTS were always getting us to turn out the lights to save money!! :D
