Actually that's exactly what I meant. Most of my hobbies and interests involve researching what the experts from the past did, and how they solved problems. I think it has a bearing on our interest in self-sufficiency. :D :hugs
I (and DH & DD's) have been Civil War Reenactors/Living Historians since 1986. I have learned so much about how our predecessors lived, how they ate, how they farmed, etc. IS there anybody else on the forum who loves delving into history in order to learn how to live today? :caf
..and they were unbiased WHEN?!?!?Seriously, NPR's BEST reporting is when hardly anybody is listening. I'll catch a good story by them when I'm driving all night, or when I'm cleaning in the barn on an early Sunday morning. During prime time, they report verbatim from the AP.
Go to a sewing store and buy a low-end brand new model with few features. They are machines, which break down, and a used one can have problems. You'll want to be able to take it home, take it out of the box, and play with it immediately. Leave the Craig's List models for the seasoned sewers...
We already had 10 years of DishNetwork. I called and hit a special around Christmas, so we got a free (for $10) upgrade, with a new satellite dish, and a new receiver, and now we can access HD on 2 tvs (downstairs), and non-HD upstairs. Also, we bought a Vizio 42" HD. We watch a LOT of...
THIS IS GREAT!! You haven't mentioned ANY ingredient that I cannot rub all OVER my face--that is, none of these things will be making ME sick!
**ducks4you tries rubbing the cloves, the garlic, the cornmeal, the peppermint AND the borax on bill.....hmmmm.. no reaction!!**:weee
How do you kill ants with borax?
..yeah..that's it...it's a "how-to" question
You see, ant-killing insecticides give me a severe allergic reaction, and since I really don't wanna die, but I DO want to see few ants in my kitchen, does anybody know how you apply this? :caf
WE are the people who are field-testing solar and our feedback, along with the companies that cater to our needs, will be the best way to improve solar electricity.
Right now, IMHO, the BIGGEST problem with solar is a lack of powerful, long-lasting and affordable battery storage. Certainly, if...
If you're NOT on all 4 forums, you might want to be--We on TEG (link below) thought that this thread was really great, using cardboard tp/paper towel rolls--

DH runs his own business, and that is our sole income. We (all people and animals) live on $1,500 max/month, sometimes less, sometimes more. He MAKES more than this, but these are fixed costs. We do lots of recycling and do NOT keep up with the "Jones's", still enjoy lots of good things and...
1) Organize the pantry. Put newest in back, oldest in front. If it's old but edible, eat it
2) Clean out the freezer. Did you do like I do, and not label everything? :hide Eat what's good, throw what's bad, if you even SUSPECT it's not good, throw it away
3) Look long and hard and what I...
Cherry Pie Filling
(Originally from Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook, circa 1980--they have CHANGED many of their recipes, including this one)
Ingredients:
2 cans tart cherries (or equivalent)
1 1/2 cups sugar
8 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon butter (don't substitute with marjarine--this...
Great pictures everyone!!! :clap
Gotta get my (DD's) digital out this weenend and take some pictures. (SHE's got the great camera with the super lens! )
I am encouraged with the container planting, because that's what I'll be doing a lot more of this year. I must have learned...
Thanks, Pat!! I was considering paper pots, but I already have a TON of those little plastic pots from buying starter plants over the years. I'm gentle with them, and I didn't have the heart to throw them away.
It is almost always worth taking a proficiency test to avoid a semester of a class. You will be charged at most places for this, at a nominal fee. SOMETIMES, if you are required to log a minimum number of hours in a subject, you will need to take a class, anyway, or not have the hours to...
It's great that a citizen of Colorado, who didn't want the 1976 Olympics because of possible environmental impact, would post a thread regarding abuse in the politics of the Florida Everglades. I salute you for your concern. I am also concerned, too, even though the center of Illinois has been...
