Thanks all!
I'll look into the Freedom Rangers. They seem to be a good "between" bird which is what I want.
Beekissed...How do you slow down the Cx's? From what I've seen they will gobble down all the food available!
Also I will admit I did not read the entire thread, but I saw comments about...
Hi!
My 2nd son (and his work mates) are building me a plucker! All I have to do is provide the fingers! He (and his work mates) can use the tool room from work after hours and can get "good" scrap. The feather plate is lazer cut stainless steal and it's a 1 1/2 hp adjustable motor. "The guys"...

I hear what you mean about not burying it too deep! I have been digging for crowns in my 30 yr. old bed and some of them have been a foot (or a tad more) deep! The main root of the crowns have been 2 1/2" thick! I wish I had the means (or endurance) to dig up and redo the whole thing...
There is another good use for chickens I took advantage of last summer. Embarrassed as I am to say it, last summer when I went to pull the garbage from the kitchen trash, I found maggots!:( My first thought was to spray the whole area and the garbage with bug spray! As I was going...
I was lucky, The house we bought 18 months ago came with a 10' X 10', 30 yr old asparagus bed! Last year I was still picking until just before snow! It's coming up now!
I'm doing my first incubator hatch... set them the 1st, due the 21'st. I think my nerves like the broodys hatching them better! :P I got 1 broody sitting on 10 eggs due this Wed. a little worried, when I cleaned her pen last week 6 of the eggs rolled out and I don't know how long they were out...
Hope it works for you! It has worked for me in the past... but as you know... with chickens you never know  If it dose not work I would consider that there might be something else wrong with her that the others are picking up on.
Good luck!
If you have a few days... try bringing another hen or two into the area where she is. This will make her head hen there. Let them have a few days then return the group to the run.
There is one! I saw it a few months ago but I don't know where... I'll keep looking. The biggest drawback of it was you had to keep emptying the water from a pan as it condensed.
You might try searching "self contained air conditioning"
I would think it's fine. Just use the same amount in weight. I use bars all the time. To help them melt faster I use a grater or for small amounts a potato peeler.
