I introduced my new chicks to my flock through a screen. I put the babies in a chicken tractor in the run of the big chickens, then put them back in their own areas at night. After 2 days, I propped up one end of the tractor so the little ones could go in and out, but not the big ones. It worked...
That is sad and scary. Both articles mentioned farmers are 'thinking about' and 'trying' to change, but I don't see it happening in my area yet. The idea that resources are finite seems to be foreign.
I do think it highlights the importance of small scale agriculture, that is, more labor and...
Tip for cheater brie - make your mozzarella with cream substituted for part of the milk. I didn't skim some raw milk one time, and that particular cow basically milks out half and half, so voila! quick and easy runny brie.
Good luck with your cheese endeavor!
Great, I'm glad you got them. I had pretty much perfect germination on the lipstick peppers, hopefully they will do good for you too.
I already have a pretty jar 'home' ready for the scoby, I'll have to think of a name for it.
My parents always assumed I wouldn't go to college, they never thought about any of their kid's education past high school. I had a job from the time I was 14, and I paid for all my clothes, my car and insurance when I could drive, all my personal expenses and most of my food.
I did a program...
Ya know, if your son puts the blanket over the pvc, he could play 'covered wagon'.... that was my brother's favorite game as a kid. Mine too.
Where did you find almond trees that will survive our Nebraska winters? I would love to get some, but haven't found any that will survive the cold.
I...
In the summer I do a lot of physical work, so I usually drink about a gallon. Some of that is herbal sun tea, but mostly it is plain water.
In the winter I have to remind myself to drink water, and I usually only have about 32oz. But, I don't sweat much in the winter either.
Ooh, I'm definitely in. So far I have only saved easy seeds, like watermelon, peppers, beans and peas. I tried the ferment method for cucumber seeds last year, but the fruit flies got so bad I threw the whole gloppy mess in the compost pile. I do plan on trying again next year though.
Ha. Ha. Been there done that. I've also tried the mayo conditioner, ewww. I had to wash my hair about 17 times to get it un-greased.
BB - I have done lemon/peppermint/chamomile tea rinses, I felt refreshed, and smelled faintly like tea, but I didn't notice any actual difference in my hair.
This is a little bit of 'OD' but I was reading the ingredients in a box of 'Herbal Tea' yesterday, and it contained 'artificial blackberry flavor' that has, yep, you guessed it, corn and soy! In herbal tea! Yucko Bucko.
Some other good books, "Plenty" "My Year of Meats" "All Over Creation."
Welcome to the wonderful world of sheep people! My sheep's favorite treat is BOSS, and purple clover flowers. And hair, as in, my hair attached to my head. :/
My sheep really like it when I go out there and sit still with them and let them sniff me all over. For some reason they love sniffing...
I have been reading all the interesting posts about Kombucha, and I think I'm ready to try it. If anyone has extra scobies (?) to sell or trade, I'm interested.
I have lots of seeds or the Readers Digest 'Back to Basics' book, or the Readers Digest 'How to Do Just About Anything' book...
A few years ago I learned a grounding technique that I incorporate into all my meditation, yoga, massages and communication sessions.
I start out by sitting comfortably but straight. I mentally level my 'pelvic bowl' and start to form a ball of red fire at the base of my spine. This usually...
