My guess is that it was a combination of heat and humidity. Rabbits just don't handle it well. I've lost several on days that I didn't think were hot but looking back they were also humid days.

You could if you wanted to take the time to cut it up. Out here in the desert it is more of a shrub. Nothing much thicker than your thumb. Now when we lived in South/central Tx the mesquite were trees. They grow like oaks. We just don't get the rain here for that. Maybe 10" a year.

Try it with a piece of fruit. The spout makes me want to stick with juicer.

You may have to fence for the rabbits. I've found them to chew right through the row covers.

You could buy a new rack if that one won't clean up. I use my boil bath canner to sterilize and keep my jars hot before canning.
