Supper came from the garden tonight...fried taters, green beans, zucchini, tomato slices......and pork chops from the freezer.
The only money spent was the gas to go pick blueberries, and I got a 4qt ice cream pail full in about 2 hours...I'll probably go again after school starts to get...
Normally I don't pay much attention to this guy, but I did think it would fit right in here...especially since we've all known this for along time.

We've been having alot of news coverage here about these quakes. They've been saying the difference between west coast & east coast quakes are that here on the west side we have alot of fault lines that absorb alot of the shaking, but on the east side it's more solid bedrock with less...
Even though here in WA, being in the 'ring of fire' and earthquake prone...we rarely have ones that are felt...mostly little tremors. I've lived here all my life and can only remember 2 that really shook us up. One in 1965 was 6.5 and the other in Feb 2001 was 6.8 Those both were scary...
EXACTLY!
It's been near impossible to find any meat (beef or pork) for less than $2lb (with the exception of SOME chicken). Last weeks ad for Albertson had Chuck steak or roast for $3.99lb and that's supposed to be on sale? for CHUCK? Even though it was boneless I thought that was ridiculous...
I'm not an expert, but I would think if you are willing to mess with the bungees and as long as it still freezes....go for it. BUT check to make sure there are no coils in the back like alot of refridgerators have, that can get really hot sometimes and could start a fire.
I agree food is very expensive anymore. If we didn't have a garden or freezer or home canned stuff for stocking up and had to buy everything we eat every week it would really run into some money. Trying to buy enough food for the 4 of us for 3 balanced meals plus a snack or two per day can...
Earlier I had taken off the door to the box to let everyone out to explore. Only Momma came out, then went right back in...so after about an hour or so we moved them to the enclosed area of the yard so they can get their feet in the dirt. I set up the portable dog house for a shelter, and I put...
That's a great list SSDreamin and I'd agree with most of it. It just seems that 25lbs of flour doesn't seem nearly enough even for just one person. I know we as a family of four have went thru 25# in just 2 months & I didn't do all that much baking at the time. :hu
I could have sworn there was an old thread on here about a 'food storage calculator', but I can't find it at the moment. You could check the LDS food storage website, they have alot of that kind of info!!!
I agree about it being too confusing. sheesh!
An even easier method than mentioned doesn't even use a canner at all and it's safe......I've done my pickles this way for over 25 years and my mother did too before that and nobody, I repeat NOBODY has ever gotten sick from eating them and...
just as peaches...probably about a week or less. I thought you were saying the extra peaches were already prepped with sugar & pectin and that could last maybe upto about a month. You could peel & pit them & stick em in the freezer, or can em. If they are prepped with sugar & pectin you could...
