I have been wanting to make gingerale
but all of the recipies I have found use yeast
and one has the addition of whey
I am wondering if grandma really added yeast or just let hers sit on the counter and ferment naturally for a day or two...
anyone know how or if it is possible to make an ale...
yes pineapple brew can be drank as I now understand it after two days (or so) with it's mother,
it is a fizzy drink that tastes a lot like beer,
it tastes very good IMO, now, my friend says it doesn't have alcohol in it, but it tastes very much like it does, perhaps only a low amount
now...
you all have been so helpful as I have been looking for well and pump info the past several months
look what I just found at lehmans
I think this might be a more econmical sort of pump to have on hand as back up
(just thinking about it haven't decided yet, need to do more research)
I...
anyone use the bay leaf method?
I guess you put bay leaves in the bucket with the flour or rice and that prevents bugs...
would I get a good shelf life with bay leaves and flour or rice in a food grade bucket with regular lid or do I need all of that fancy equipment in order to get some things...
I am preparing to stock up
almost bought very pricey grains on line, when I found out I could buy big bags of feed and save a ton of money...
ok I get that,
we have feed stores in the area,
but really what can I get that every feed store carries?
I mean I don't want to look like an idiot...
I am growing several boxes of potatoes, the problem is this,
I don't have a lot of compost readily available at this time, and my bags of peat moss aren't going really far as I try to keep covering my plants, mounding the dirt higher (while they plants taller and taller)
any ideas on cheap...
so after much research it appears that this thing I inherited is a vinegar mother, made in mexico with pineapple
so I have taken pineapple scrap topped with water in a gallon jug and added the mother (and some sugar)
covered it with cloth so it can breath, it is in a darkish warmish spot...
where do you get em?
I know car washes use drums but I am not sure about using something that holds/held chemicals
not to mention I think maybe I want food safe...
do have to go pay retail and buy them or what?
what do you use, and where do you get them, thanks!
my friend gave me a mother,
well I think it is a mother?
it was made (grown ) in mexico, where her family puts the mother in a jar of pineapple scraps topped with water
she called it "pineapple water",
she lets it set a day or two, it ferments, it tastes sort of like beer
this is when she...
in your experience, can I store a 6 month to 1 year supply of 25lb bags of flour in the original bag, in a not airtight plastic bin in the cool dark humid basement?
I have been storing it there for a while now, but increased my supply, and am wondering if by the time I get to the 3rd bag if it...

ok,
so I have been reading a little bit about mushrooming...
and it says to be sure that when you pick them you shake a mushroom or two to let out more spores so more mushrooms will grow next year
so now I am wondering
you see I have an area under my deck that every year grows mushrooms...
raise one or two grass fed beef cows,
and one grass fed dairy cow? (average 3 cows at a time)
assuming the purchase of feed during the months nothing is growing?
2nd question
how much land if you wanted to grow the food for those cows also, so you wouldn't have to purchase it during...
ok I am raising some meat birds and boy are they hungry (or greedy really)
has anyone here got experience with this particular bird?
I heard that I should give them a 12 hour fast at 4 weeks,
but they sure eat heavily at only 2 weeks
what would you recommend as a feeding schedule so they...
I have been stocking up on some things for emergency preparedness,
and have also been learning how to use cheap and old fashioned ingredients to do most of my house hold chores
so I basically can clean any thing with baking soda and vinegar
my question is this,
I can use those two things...
rty007 I used a very similar method shown to me by my Russian friend, (she isn't available right now to ask so I ask here)
is it ok that the sourkrout got dry on the top several inches
and is it ok that I added brine, (salted water)
or should I start over,
thanks
I see that the length...
I made a batch 12 days ago
I was told it should sit out for about 10 to 14 days
then it should go in the fridge
after looking around on google,
I see some say don't touch for 4 months,
do you think they mean 4 on the counter or in the fridge
it was unclear where I read this,
but they said it...
