    I'm such a sucker!

They are all bantams. What kind? I don't know. Guesses over at BYC are Cochin, OEGB, and possibly EE bantam. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. The one in the middle is my favorite so far, he's so pretty, almost silver, and spunky too! I've got 38 year-old hens and nearly 3 dozen eggs...

Mandieg4 - Update and lots of new pics of kids and animals.

I candled my eggs one last time last night before lockdown starts on Saturday. I was pretty bummed out about the whole thing last week, I only saw two moving and couldn't see anything, except the air sac, in any of the other eggs. This time I saw at least 14 moving :ya I swear watching those...

    Candling eggs?

I'm in the same boat. On day 9 I was able to see which ones were empty and some that had veins, but when I candled on day 14 I didn't see a thing. The eggs are all dark. I wish I would have used white eggs on my first batch so I kind of had an idea what to look for.

50 Pounds of Onion vs. the Veg-O-Matic

I've got 250 onion plants growing and I'm trying to figure out what to do with that many onions! I don't have cool place to store them so I'm going to have to either freeze them or dry them. Did dehydrating the onions fill the house with fumes?

    Lockdown question

Thanks for the help. It'll be a miracle if any of them hatch anyway. We had a mishap with the thermostat on day 3 and the incubator got up to 120 for a couple minutes. I candled a couple days ago and saw two moving, but that was it. I've pulled 12 out so far that I thought were not...

    Lockdown question

I started my first batch of eggs in the incubator on 14th. So day 18 is on the 1st. Do I take the automatic turner out on the 31st? or the morning of the 1st?

Does the top blade slice a different direction so you end up with cubes instead of strips?

Mandieg4 - Update and lots of new pics of kids and animals.

It will be my last quarter for awhile. I can't get into the LPN program until January. I'm half tempted to switch to the Horticulture program for the next two semesters though. If I can afford it, I'd love to take some classes on greenhouse management and basic horticulture science. I...

Yogurt! and a few questions regarding raw milk

I don't know about the heating question, but the good bacteria should destroy the bad bacteria. I read something not too long ago that was talking about using yogurt to test bacteria laden milk. They would put a couple drops of the yogurt in the milk and test it in 24 hours to make sure all...

East vs. West ... and a little bit of bragging on my kid

:D That is the exact reason I don't write in cursive. I hated it, it hurt my hand, and my 5th grade social studies teacher would not accept any work that was not written in cursive. I would write in cursive in his class and printed in all my other classes. In my defense, my print was much...

Mandieg4 - Update and lots of new pics of kids and animals.

My father in law surprised me with a new incubator a few days ago. I got is set up over the weekend and finally had a chance filled it up this morning. 41 eggs! :celebrate I think I'm just as excited as the kids. My 4-year old has peeked in the 'bator window every 15 minutes all day long...

Mandieg4 - Update and lots of new pics of kids and animals.

    1. Declutter/simplify - working on this one, slowly but surely. This quarter is over next week and I only have one class next quarter so I have no excuse not to be mostly finished by the time the kids get out of school. 2. Build more raised beds - My bil just gave me 60 used tires and DH...

    Stinky he washer

Are you using a liquid homemade or a powder? I noticed mine started smelling really bad about 6 months after I started using the liquid soap and all the clothes were stinky too. About two years ago I started making powdered detergent and haven't had a problem since.

    Husband doesn't want to homeschool?

I think that when children are really young, it's not a battle I would choose to fight with my husband. I think homeschooling is great, but I also don't believe it is the best thing for every child. My kids are all in public schools and are thriving. We have never had any major problems with...

East vs. West ... and a little bit of bragging on my kid

You are doing great with your son! When we lived in Idaho my oldest was taught D'Nealian but when we moved to Georgia when he was in 2nd grade they forced him to write with the standard block style letters. Neither my 5th grader nor my 3rd grader know how to write in cursive. My 5th grader...

    what do I do....sick kids

For my kids I usually rub the oil of oregano on their feet. That stuff can be awful to little tummies, especially if they're already not freeing kinda yucky. You can also rub garlic on their feet with it. My kids call it pizza feet :P

The FDA May Change HFCS Name to Corn Sugar

I don't see it making any difference. Anyone that is used to checking the label for HFCS is going to check for corn sugar too.
