    Uses for an old oven?

Actually, if I went in that direction the outer shell could be firewood storage...hm...

    Uses for an old oven?

I appreciate the suggestion. It would definitely be a workspace of some kind. Another thought was to use the inner liner as the shell for my insulated cabinet. (Put hot stuff in to keep it hot, ice for cold). Just brainstorming at the moment.

    Uses for an old oven?

I have firebrick, and if I used it for that it would be considerably changed.

    Uses for an old oven?

Brainstorming. I have mice in my stove that are wreaking havoc with the wires. I will need to replace the stove. However, I don't want to just discard the old stove and I'm trying to think of ways it could be reused. First idea is to use it in the outdoor kitchen I'm building. Can it be used...

What did you do in your garden today?

The woodchips potatoes did ok but not great. Starting a wicking bag test tomorrow.

What did you do in your orchard today?

Interesting. That hasn't been my experience, after having taken ax or saw to the tap root to get some dead trees out. Maybe we have different definitions? Most of my trees are planted dry (or have been in the past) so maybe they were forced to dig deep for water and a primary root took that role?

What did you do in your garden today?

Today I got more tomatoes, 3 watermelons, and watered the greenhouse. I haven't watered the watermelons at all but apparently they're still getting too much water under the woodchips. They split, almost explode when cut.

What did you do in your garden today?

I planted pumpkins mid July. We'll see if they produce this year. I've had late planted squashes produce before, but that was in a different environment.

What did you do in your orchard today?

Most prunus (which includes almonds) have a taproot.

What did you do in your orchard today?

Likely part are from a Halls Hardy almond, others from various purchased or gifted seeds. I just grabbed a few and threw them in a bag, so could be just about anything. It's even possible that some are a peach or nectarine cross. The goal is to find what actually thrives here, so a varied...

What did you do in your orchard today?

Tree question. I have been trying to grow most of my trees from seed and just planted some almond seedlings. The "guidelines" all say to make sure soil stays below the graft, but since these trees will not be grafted, can they be planted deeper? I want them to have deep root systems so the holes...

    Memes That Make You Giggle

Can I deliberately trigger the OCD of the towel purists? I hang both towels and sheets.

    Memes That Make You Giggle

I have had caffeine in only twice, both times on accident. It's the innocent bystanders who suffer.

What did you do in your garden today?

Trying to decide if I want to let the wild lettuce go to seed, or harvest it. The problem is, I have no health problems myself (knock on wood :) ) so anything herbal I make just sits on the shelf until it's discarded for the next season. There's always the "what if" argument, and I dry a lot...

What did you do in your garden today?

My 3 surviving licorice plants are thriving. The valerian seedling is dead. The last of the marshmallow seems to be coming back from the dead. The velociraptors got another seedling grapevine.

What did you do in your garden today?

Landrace dry bean harvest so far. Planted in February as part of a cold tolerance test, started ripening just as the heat hit. No cullinary water, so probably 2/3 of the plants died of either the cold, the heat, or drought. Next year will be better. I'm tempted to plant a fall crop with these...

What did you do in your garden today?

I have a nightmare aversion to drip lines, after Dad (early stages of dementia) decided it was time to dig the compost pit and cut all the lines to get them out of the way. SMH

What did you do in your garden today?

I let one of my 30 week cockerels join the girls yesterday. He'll be going to my sister's house tonight. Watermelons are sprawling. Melons are struggling. Dry beans ripening. Still have 3 baby almond trees and an apricot in the new garden area. The last of the pumpkins are dead. I'll wait a few...

What did you do in your garden today?

Got the rest of a box filled with compost. Woodchips have been in it all winter. Picked more dry beans. Tomatoes are starting to fruit. Waiting for female blossoms on the moschatas and melons.
