For those of you who make bread....

If the dough is room temp. when you put it in the pan, I would let it rise for about 30mins. If it is cold from the fridge like mine sometimes is, let it rise for an hour.

    finally got my hay delivered

Amazing the difference in climates we have, lol. It was in the high 70s- low 80s here today. What I wouldn't give for a little ice or snow... ETA: That would be 75-80F so what something like 25 in celsius?

    Mush

I put sugar and milk in my cream of wheat and butter, salt, and pepper in my grits. Pretty basic. I might have to try fried cornmeal mush. Probably have to come up with a different name for it or my picky husband might turn up his nose at it!

Warning!! Don't bother opening if you're not of the Christian Faith:>)

I think that sometimes the majority needs to think about the rights of the minority. Just because some black people wanted to be free, was the rest of the country just supposed to roll over and let them? You bet! Not only let them, but fight for their right to be free citizens. Like Scotty...

    PotterWatch's Burrow

We don't have waffles very often so this morning I decided to make some. I was quickly reminded why we don't have waffles very often :P . I don't really use a mixer when I am cooking or baking, I find that it just gives me more things to wash and I can do just as good a job by hand. Whipping...

Next time I go to San Diego, I'll have to post it on here in case anyone wants to hang out, lol. We live in Pomona. We got the goats from a place called Tiny Colors Farm in Ramona http://www.tinycolorsfarm.com/index.htm . She has mainly Nigerians, but also a few mini-manchas, saanens, and is...

    PotterWatch's Burrow

Hurray! The goats have settled in nicely. I was really sweating it for a few days there... they were soooooo noisy! I was beginning to think we were never going to be able to leave the house for any length of time without royally ticking off the neighbors. My husband and I were even...

Dogs and the stuff they destroy

My dogs have pretty much outgrown the chewing thing, but now they dig... in our brand new sod. We are still trying to figure out what to do about it. Right now, we pretty much can't let them be out in the yard alone, major pain in the patootie.

    Mush

I like things made with cornmeal but I have never had cornmeal mush. I know there is a recipe for things like that at hillbilly housewife though.

    So...

Our kids were in a very small private school (38 students for grades prek-6th). My oldest son started being bullied in 1st grade and unfortunately the school board had made some decisions that made it impossible for us to get help with the problem. It's too long of a story to tell here, but we...

    PotterWatch's Burrow

So apparently our goats think they are house pets, lol. We were just outside hanging out near their house trying to tempt them into laying down and going to sleep. We walked to the back door and went inside but one of the dogs was trying to sneak out (not allowed out with the goats yet), while...

    AARRGGHHH!!!

I always broil my asparagus in the oven. I put them in a plastic bag with some olive oil and shake it around to coat, then lay them out on a single layer on a cookie sheet, and sprinkle some kosher salt and freshly ground pepper. Put it in the oven until it seems done, lol. Soooo good!

    Casualities of the economy

Just wanted to add... Sorry to hear about your plight. I do know how it feels and I hope your husband is able to find more work soon! I'm with you, I wish I wasn't in the city so that I could try to make a living off of our chickens and goats.

    Casualities of the economy

It's been going on for a while now. Businesses are having to cut back on their employees because people have less money to spend and support those businesses. It's a vicious circle. We are really struggling right now because my husband (firefighter/paramedic) is injured and his disability ran...
