Cold is on the Right, Hot is on The Left
I flipped through my cook book and found a recipe for Honey-Pumpkin pie. Sounds good, so I got started.
After I got the crust laid in the pan, I thought, Hey, everyone on SS takes pics of what they are baking/cooking...think I will too
So I whipped out my camera and took step by step pictures of my experience making pumpkin pie....boring to some, but I think others might appreciate it.
I must at this point confess, this is only my second time baking pumpkin pie, and this is my frist attempt from scratch. The last pumpkin pie went straight from freezer to oven.
So like I said, I already had the crust laid out in the pan. Did my best at making those fancy crimpy edges, then said good enough, onto mixing pie...Now this is where I must confess, that crust came straight from the fridge....no from scratch crust, although I do make an ok from scratch crust...today I was just wanting to do this quick and be done....
Then I got down to the business of mixing up the ingredients...Ok, so I didn't have a fresh pumpkin, so it was a can of pumpkin to start. Libby's pumpkin to boot. So I put in my bowl canned pumpkin and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
Then I added 3/4 cup of honey.
Mixed that up...
And then I added the next few dry ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
I mixed all that together. Added 3 eggs, forgot to take a picture of adding the eggs, fished out the eggshell I managed to drop in there LOL and mixed that all up, too.
Then I started to add my evaporated milk...wait, my recipe calls for one 5 1/3 ounce can of milk! I only have 12 ounce can of milk! ACK! what to do?! OK, so I improvised, added the 12 ounce can and didn't add the 1/2 cup of regular milk.
Mix it all up and then......
Now this is the very important part! As you are pouring the pumpkin pie mix into the already prepared crust.......
You realize you forgot to preheat the oven!
So, I waited for the oven to preheat, put my pie in, and this is the end result....
We haven't cut it yet, but will once it cools. I'll let you know if it turned out to be a disaster or not
This was a recipe for custard style pie out of my cookbook.
