I would spend the ten dollars on a trash magazine, a few candy bars and some tampax.

LOL..That will do it.

One head of cabbage I bought a few weeks ago was 16#. Cost me $2 :D It became fried cabbage, coleslaw and several quarts of kimchi!

ohmigosh. i think i love you.

but back to the challenge.... so i bought 3 HUGE cabbages for $1.50 each. i swear they were huge. talk about feeding the neighborhood!

and our local grocery store has "10 for $10" all the time. holy cow you can get just about anything - especially their store brands. and they just lowered their tuna to $0.53 a can. team that up with 10 for $10 miracle whip and you got all the tuna salad you could stand.

;-)

12.5 lbs sugar: $6.38
3 oz ginger: $0.60
5 lemons: $2.00
champagne yeast: $1.00

Total: $9.98

Equals: 26 or so bottles of beet or carrot wine, veggies from garden. No suffering here! :D Bet I could trade for 'most anything I wanted, if I wanted to trade!

LOL...no kidding. I can make beer, wine and mead so I can trade for anything :D

I don't do a lot of prepackaged foods, but I do use cream of chicken mushroom soup. $1.50/can and goes really well on veggies, can be used to slow cook meat (like pork chops...mmmmm), and is fairly low in carbs.

Other bargain foods...

Canned tuna
Frozen veggies
lentils
canned tomatoes
dry beans
dry onions
dry tomatoes (if you make em yourself)

Funny, my eyes would cross in confusion and my head would spin from being overwhelmed when I first read about your mead-making, racking, and all those other foreign terms....now I've discovered that it is so stinkin' easy! The books make it sound so hard! There was a time when wine was simply grape juice in a bottle made from animal skin, which would expand with the fermentation. Thank goodness for airlocks.

Also, don't forget those dry beans can be planted to grow even more for free.

(sorry, I can't add to the challenge.....I haven't done any real shopping lately :hide )
