Hubby won a $1000 gift card at the local Big R. The thing we really need is a car, but Big R doesn't sell those :D. Big R is our version of a Tractor Supply or Fleet Farm.

So what would you buy if you got a gift card like that?

There is some small stuff I need (oyster shell, garden seeds, maybe some shirts for Max), and I will make sure I am stocked on feed, etc..., but I think I need a little retail therapy. Maybe I should tell hubby this is the perfect time for me to get a good pellet gun. Hmmmm.....

Buy big "end of season" tools on sale and resale them for cash to put toward the car  Seriously...I would in a heartbeat after buying all the little things needed. You could probably even sell the gift card and apply that to the car :hu

Congrats! I would definitely stock up on feed, and maybe get an incubator. You could get supplies to start a new garden project or animal one.

well, for you it's different than for me, because I'm not in town.

Because if we won $1000 gift card it'd be going on Fencing! :p and feed.

and maybe new muck boots.

I really did think about buying something to resell, but with my luck on craigslist and ebay lately, that could SERIOUSLY backfire! :p

I guess it will depend on what form the gift card comes in and if he will have to show ID when using it or what.

Not sure how much input I will have on the card either since it is in hubby's name..... even though > I < filled out the entry form and put his name on it!

I know we would be tempted to stock up on things for TSHTF time that we haven't been able to purchase, a full compliment of farm tools, seed supplies, etc., but I'd have the whole amount spent on fencing in a heartbeat and then some. I assume you don't need that.

Start with the stuff you HAVE to have, so you don't feel guilty about not having that stuff on hand, especially when it's free. :)

THen, tell hubby he can have $200 to spend on you and you can spend $200 on him - more fun to buy things for each other.

Then, if you have anything left - community family decision.

Plus, a good idea is ask what your church can use or maybe community shelter, something like that, and spend $50 to help someone else out.

Already have fencing and a complete supply of tools. Hubby should upgrade a few though. They DID have wood burning and pellet stoves in stock last fall. I would LOVE to have a wood burning stove as a heating option, but not sure how much it would cost to have one installed. That could get expensive :p

I would think heat: stove would be good. If I had that, I would look at their water supplies. I'd be looking at hand pumps and water storage tanks. If that was covered, then I would splurge on a nice "garden" shed where I could hide a goat or more meat of some form in a neighborhood if I had to. Final idea would be a good quality greenhouse.

Wow Wife...first let me say...WOOHOO! Congrats!! :weee :clap :ya
OK...ahem...now...got THAT out of my system. :gig
How are your canning supplies? Green house? Need an electric fence?? Small shed?? For me, it would hands down, be cattle panels and T posts, and feed.
Do you have a good hand grinder? Maybe a food saver? Dehydrator? Maybe a small generator? Oh the possibilities!
