I baked my first ever egg custard pies yesterday. They turned out great. :weee

I guess I should have said my first ever pies that anyone was able to eat.

I can make bisquits, bake cakes and cobblers and even make my own bread but my pies have all ended up in the garbage can. Not even fit for dogs or chcikens. LOL I did not brave the pie crust making. I purchased those. They were so good. Both pies disappeard before I could get a picture but I will be making more.
These are the first pies I have attempted after my last failed attempt (out of many failed attempts) 30 years ago. :ya

(I added this to the recipe section also along with the recipe)

I love egg custard! DH hates it because his mom only made it when they were sick.

Congratuations on the successful baking!

Hey next time you and Jay plan me a vacation you need to be sure and tell me about it. I could have easily talked DH into heading your way instead of going to Wy. Heck whats another 1000 miles pulling a fifth wheel with three kids and a dog? :D

Oh, how many eggs do those custard pies take??? I am trying to find some good recipe's to use up some eggs. Do yo have any ideas??

The recipe is on the very first post. 3 eggs is all it uses but boy were those pies good.

Jay told me you were coming to pick me up when you picked up his.....what was it? Dirt? And its just a 1000 miles? Ummmm I don't see what the problem would be especially with he dogs and kids along to make the trip more entertaining. LOL

Story of the table - About 5 years ago we were given some really old barn wood. DH took the wood and planed it, cut the pieces out and then started piecing them together in what you see. He put a center pedestal on and I had the guys at work cut out two strips of copper from some scrap we had left over off a job. Before we could get the copper put on Hurricane Katrina showed up. The table was on the front porch being worked on and the winds flipped the table around and tore the pedestal off. DH left and went to the coast to work and since then the table has been turned upside down just sitting on the porch.
Since he came home a year ago we have been to busy to get back to the table. But the garden is in and we are in "wait for harvest time". So every afternoon this week we have worked on the table.

Since the pedestal was destroyed and also where it was connected will probablly always be a weak spot we added legs instead. Resanded and added some poly and the copper edging.
Still need to add a couple more coats of poly but here is how it looks today.

Funny thing about that table. We were going to put it in the house to use as our table. In the mean time we had the old island torn out and a new island/eating area installed. Now I have no where in the house to put the table. I refuse to part with it because I love the wood top. I have been walking around the house all morning trying to figure out just where the heck am I going to put this table.

DH says NO to adding a room to the house. LOL

Oh well, I guess I can use it this summer on the porch as a canning station.

2dream, I hate to see thee going through such stress. Just send the table to me, and I'll put you in my will. :D
