The other day we found a nest in the ivy, right by the entrance to the carport. The mother is not happy when anyone goes by! She is seldom on the nest, I don't know if the eggs will hatch with her being gone so much of the time. But, here are some photos.

I have yet to have any babies live to leave the nest. But, a few weeks ago my nextdoor neighbor had two babies leave the nest!! So, I am hopeful these will be able to hatch and go on to live happy lives in the neighborhood.

Today, (6/8/11)I was curious if the hummingbird eggs had hatched or if they were even still in the nest. (Last year some preditor got the new babies)

anyhow, I am too short to see into the nest, so used my camera to help me see. And this is what we have!!

They look like they are even getting feathers, which is farther along than last years chicks.

On Friday (6/10/11) I took this photo of the babies in the nest.

You can see they are a bit bigger.

Then this morning I could see little beaks up over the top of the nest!!
Here they are this morning (6/13/11) How quickly they are growing!

Here is my thumb compared to the size of the babies.

Look how much they grew in a week!! They are starting to out grow the nest!

Yesterday (6/22/2011) I went out to check on the nest, there was only one chick in there! I got my camera, took a couple of photos, and then... That chick flew off the nest! I followed him/her and took a couple of photos of him sitting in a bush, but none of the photos turned out!! They were all just too blurry!! Oh well, It was fun to see them grow from tiny eggs to tiny little birds! They are happy and eating from the feeders. I hope they are here for many years to come!

How neat! I love our hummers- I don't know where they nest, there are too many woods around us, so they don't nest near the house. But we feed them every year and they always come back. The other day one was hovering at the sliding glass door to the living room- he was telling me that I needed to refill the sugar!

It is funny how they "talk" to you. Mine let me know when the feeders need filling too... and they come just to say "Hi!" sometimes. Mine get just inches away and make little chirps at me.

and they love to fly through the spray from the hose when I water.

LOL Yes, I've seen them practically knock on the kitchen window when feeders are empty.

Keep us updated on the nest. :)

Oh! How exciting!
So how big is that nest, say compared to a chicken egg.

It is much smaller than most chicken eggs. I have an idea...

I took a photo of my hand touching the nest..

Thanks for the nest photos! We sometimes have hummers in our neighborhood but not regulars I don't think. They pass through on their way to somewhere...

I love that your posts almost always have photos!
