Yard Farmer
I've lived in this house for nearly 22 years now. Until last summer the man who lived across the street, George, mowed his lawn practically every other day, keeping it extremely short. Last August he unfortunately passed away. Now George's grandson mows the lawn once a week for his grandmother. The grass, while still neat, is a bit longer than it ever has been. The observation? The past few mornings since I've been out on summer break I've had a little more time to sit on my sofa. The other morning something caught my eye out the front picture window that looks into the side yard across the street with its slightly longer grass. A flash of blue dropped from the telephone wire onto the grass then back up to the wire. Could it be? Something I've seen but never in my own woodsy neighborhood! A BLUEBIRD???? Yup, they're here every morning then again in the evening. There must be just the right bugs in that slightly longer grass. There's at least one pair of them, possibly more. Very exciting! It was a big deal when we started seeing bluebirds in this area and now they're right here in front of me!
