We had a lot of walls like that in door county in Wisconsin too. (That's the peninsula part of Wisconsin that sticks out like a thumb into Lake Michigan.) I've always really liked the stone walls.

Wow - the wall is really cool! Don't remember if I asked or somebody else - but thanks for the pic! It's amazing to me that those walls stand for so many decades and (I don't think) they are mortared in place - just stacked?

Just stacked, yes. Apparently the neighbour who's house has since been abandoned did some serious damage to the wall some time ago. I'm going to have another go at fixing it, but it's definitely not as easy at it looks!
