That sucks - but it does happen. Hope you can get restocked. I like fall hatched chicks because they're ready to lay in the spring. Might be a tad more work to keep 'em warm but it can be done. (at least in my part of the world)

Sorry about the losses. Hey, we can all forget. I walked out to open the coop a couple weeks ago & found I had forgotten to close it the night before!! I'm waaaay older than your daughter. Manure happens. I was fortunate, nothing got to them. But you feel badly and I am certain that she does...especially seeing the losses.

I also forgot to close the pop door one night last week. But, they were also behind a closed run and an electronet envelope. So... I was protected. But, it could just as easily have been me. I often kick into "worry mode" when it's dark out, we're eating supper, and I know the pop door still needs to be closed for the night. But, you can only do so much.
