My brother is in a K9 MP Unit....he plans to become a state trooper when he is done in Germany.

The way I see it, regardless of what anyone's opinions are for or against (cop or non) guns, types of guns, etc., my brother has risked his life and family so that we can have the right to own guns, period.

It is not the law abiding citizens that are giving guns a bad name, it's the criminals. Passing more laws, or saying law abiding citizens don't need to be armed, doesn't affect the criminals who are already breaking gun laws anyway.

Ever read the "Whipping Boy"? Yea, I think it's kind of like that. You want to punish the law abiding citizens for something they didn't do.

Thank you Quail for the off topic post. If you want to preach about your 2nd amendment rights you should start a thread to that effect. This thread is specifically not about that topic. Please respect the wishes of the OP. Oh by the way, I was in the Army in Germany when there was actual danger of some sort. So I guess I protected your rights too.

Thanks

Well I don't feel my post was off topic as we are discussing guns and who should have them.

You really can't discuss something like that, with law professionals or not, and leave the second ammendment out of it.

How a law professional feels about it doesn't change anything.

Thank you for your service to our country. I wasn't saying only my brother has protected my rights. Thank you, too, for pointing out that my brother obviously isn't in any real danger. I'm thankful he is now in Germany. My point was his profession, not whether he is in any real danger at this time.

Guns go hand in hand with being SS. People use them to hunt food, put down an animal that needs to be put out of its misery, etc.

Tell me, if you were going to rob a place and you walk armed into a bank, don't you think you would think twice before you pulled out your piece, not knowing who else in there might be carrying??

No it would make me 50. You may have never heard of the cold war. There used to be 230,000 troops stationed in Germany back when they had a wall. That was back when the Warsaw Pact was considered to be dangerous. If anything had happened it would have made the 2 Iraqi wars look like nothing. Casualties would have been in the 100's of thousands. It would have probably escalated into a nuclear war or nuculer depending on how well educated you are. That's why I said a sort of threat. It was highly unlikely but still a possibility. Right now there is no threat in Germany. So now you have had your history lesson. Google Cold War for info. They probably don't teach it in HS anymore.

Spoke with my brother, his exact words are, "There are plenty of people driving around the streets who are not competant to operate a vehicle, that is more dangerous than all the crap gun arguments."

I posed the question to him exactly as the OP wrote it, and his first reply when asked how he felt about it was, "Fine, why?"

Since there have been no self-identified LEO's here on SS so far, I don't think you're going to get an answer from the people you want to hear from, I suggest you take it to an LEO forum of some sort.
