Heh. Easy to picture!!

*twirls*

In belly dance class, my teacher would show me over and over and over again moves.... but she pulled out veils and I could mimic any movement. LOL!!!

Ditto fire.

Huh, Auntie? If it sparkles and swirls, I can follow the movement. Suddenly it becomes intuitive :p

1. What state/province/country are you in and what is your climate like?

Colorado. Dry. Clay for soil. Not much rain. We have a lot of bindweed.

2. How many people are in your family? Marital status?

I'm related to people I don't know but I adopt family a lot. Single - can't imagine getting married. I can't even imagine dating.

3. How would you define self sufficiency?

Able to meet all of ones own needs. I don't think this is wholly possible in the modern world, however. But the less reliant one is on others, the better.

4. What would you do with your spare time if you had any resources you needed?

Learn to REALLY sew and cook. By sew, I mean doing all my own dyeing and fabric painting, as well. Make my own lace and trim. Possibly learning to weave too. By cook, I mean finally learn to garden, have some cows and goats, make my own cheese, grow the bulk of my own food, and learn a lot more about preparation and presentation.

5. Have you ever built a house , or other types of building? Do you want to?

I've helped with a lot of various parts. I want to learn more.

6. Can you weld? Steel, aluminum, MiG, TiG, stick, Oxy-Acet?

Nope.

7. Who or what inspired you to become more self sufficient?

My dad's mom. Through my dad, since she died before I was born.

8 Cloth or paper?

Cloth as often as possible, but I'll use paper if I'm cleaning something I want to just toss out.

9. In what ways are you self sufficient now and in what ways would you like to learn more?

Not very, so I have tons to learn.

I suck at gardening lol. I buy local, though. I get raw milk and real eggs from a local dairy and will be taking classes there on cheese making once I move up north.

I can cook and sew and knit. Want to learn to crochet.

I make most of my own cleaning stuff: toothpaste, hair cleaning, going to make dishwasher detergent once we're using it again (it has been spitting back stuff and dishes are dirtier coming out, so I'm handwashing) and laundry detergent once the store bought runs out.

10. In what way(s) will you never choose to become self sufficient?

I'm not sure. If I could build a small village with the folk I wanted there, I think we would all do more than we'd consider now.

I really love plumbing. Hot running water. Toilets that take the poo elsewhere. Just think we need to do something more useful with the waste.

11. Are you interested in stocking up for future needs?

Very. Constrained by space and finances.

12. Where do you end up when you sink into yourself, away from the outside world?

in the Dark.

13. Can you drive a farm tractor or a semi?

nope. I hate driving, actually.

14. Do you make crafts or useful items? Would you want to teach others how to do these?

I can knit. And bead. *thinking* Dunno what else I do.

I am not good enough to teach. Actually, I'm just terrible at teaching.

15. Can you have legally livestock where you are at? Do you have any? What kinds?

Yes! Denver allows chickens (not roosters) and a lot of the rural areas allow goats. Ft Collins, I know, does.

16. Can you operate a lathe? Metal, wood?

Nope

17. Do you like to garden? If so, what do you enjoy growing?

So far, I hate it. Everything dies. It's like condemning the poor plants, as soon as you put them in my care. LOL

18. Do you fish? Bait or explosives?

I rarely fish, but if I go fishing, expediency would cry out for explosives :D Or what that just be fun?

19. How much space/land do you have or rent? City? Country?

Rent. Small apartment. Nice patio, but north facing. Middle of the city

20. Are you a Novice, Technician, General, Advanced? ARRL?

Nope

21. What is your self sufficient specialty? Or what one would you like to learn?

I don't think I have one!! I want to learn more about most things.

22. If you could create a degree and curriculum, what would you major in and what classes would you take?

Super villainry! woot! Bioengineering minions and all kinds of awesomeness. I'd list lots more but running out of time. I have dance class soon lol.

23. Do you do wood work? framing, finish, cabinet?

No, but really really wanna learn.

24. Are you interested in herbal medicine?

Yes. I think doctors are a crock of ****. I do most of my medicine through herbs and diet. If I break a leg, I'll want a doctor to set it. If my body is out of balance, I think they'll only worsen the situation.

25. If you could live any place you chose, where would it be?

Hmmmmm.... In this here now? Northern CO. Boot out most of the people there and move in my friends and have a nice little commune.

In any other there-when, there are oodles of places I'd love. Kaleer (black jewels - Anne Bishop). Terre D'Ange (Kushiel - Jacqueline Carey). The homestead in Time Enough for Love (Heinlein).

26. Do you use a wood stove for heating or cooking?

No, but I want one.

27. What would your ideal super hero/villain be?

Some combination of Sylar and Peter from Heroes. Cool skills, bit of an evil streak.

I like Batman too. Don't like the emo superheroes and don't like the weenies like Superman.

28. Are your family or friends also interested in self sufficiency?

Yes. Dad is. Almost all my friends. The northern CO SCA is very self sufficient. A lot of them have farms or are stocking up.

29. Do you like to cook? Are you interested in whole foods and natural foods? raw milk? farm fresh eggs?

I LOVE to cook.

30. What was your MOS?

Nope

31. Do you forage or hunt for part of your food needs?

Not yet. I want to hunt though.

32. What skills do you have that help you be more self sufficient?

Allergies. I get sick around so many chemicals, that it's really easy to push further and further from commercial products.

33. In which fictional universe would you most like to live?

Same as where I want to live. ^^

34. Do you have solar panels? Plans to use solar energy?

Nope. I'm more interested in wind.

35 What is the mass/weight ratio of a European swallow carrying a coconut from the tropics to England?

lol

36. Have you ever lived completely off grid? Would you like to?

Nope, haven't before. I'd like the option to.

37. In what do you trust?

Physics and mathematics. We have a lot to learn, but the fundamentals are solid insofar as we've been able to test them.

38. Do you make things yourself to save money?

Yes! As much as I can. I wouldn't use coconut oil and baking soda toothpaste for the TASTE. blargh. :sick

39. Has trying to be more self-sufficient changed your attitude or habits about money/spending?

Inverse. Changing my spending habits made me more self sufficient. I've always been frugal and a saver. I've never in my life had any debt, nor do I plan on it.

Ozzy Fudd the Wabbit Slayer.

OMG! :gig

So roommate bought me dinner. It got here 30 minutes before I was off work. Amira spent the entire half hour running back and forth between me and dinner yowling. She thinks I'm retarded and didn't realize I should EAT NOW!

Well now I am eating and she is sprawled, happy that she fixed me.

She is very protective of me. She always has been. She's my best buddy.

I'm actually visiting auntie this weekend for at least one night (hopefully just one. I need downtime before work Monday) and I'm not pleased at leaving kitties lol. But I MISS auntie and I never get to go down and visit her.

My my kids were very little we had Sophie cat or Pofie as my kids called her. She was a long haired calico kitty and for all practical purposes raised my babies.

When they were little she would rush to their side when ever they started to fuss. I often found her in the crib when I got there curled around the top of their heads positioning herself like she was trying to nurse them. She would purr loudly, lick their hair and even pat them gently with her paws.

I remember one time in particular that my D1 got sick in the night and woke up puking and crying. I cleaned up the baby and changed her and got her settled some, then laid her on our bed while I cleaned up the crib. Pofie had her back to sleep, before I got the bed finished. They even used to rub and "silk" on her ears while she was there.

If the kids were bad they got in trouble by Pofie as well. She would walk up to them and slap them in the face with her claws in foot! I also remember D1 crying because "I disappointed Pofie and made her mad."
