I like those large wooden chairs you see on porches that are called Adirondack or Muskoka chairs. I think that would be a great project.

Has anybody here made one of those?

Yup. I have made a number of them. Great for a snooze in the shade on a hot day. Easy to build, usually made of pine and painted. I have even seen plans for a type that folds for storage in the winter.

I've seen a design that has two of them joined, with a table section between them.

I find them very nostalgic.

A friend built a pair for his front porch. I tried sitting in them but found them a little too uncomfortable.

I think you sit down fairly low in them, so that may be an issue for some.

I've also seen that design made from molded plastic, which is kind of interesting too.

I love Adirondak chairs. Their lines are so classy. I don't know if I've seen a Muskoka chair.

Getting out of the chair can be a little challenging if, like me, you have some problems with your joints.

Are there companies that make cushions for these chairs?

I haven't seen any cushions, but it would be nice to have something to soften the seat if you plan on being in it for a while.

I think that in the Muskoka area of Ontario, Canada the same design as Adirondak chairs is called Muskoka chairs.

I think it's just a regional thing.

There's lots of great cottage country there, and the chairs fit right in.

I think so; my aunt and uncle had cushions on theirs when I was a kid.
The chairs are VERY hard to get out of, like Sage said. They're built really low, but also your back is at a very slanted level, you can't really scoot out of them like you'd do in a regular chair.
