Something I have been contemplating for some time, is to do a cleanse. But under no circumstance do I want to do a juice fast as tends to be the norm.

So hang on! Its a shock!

What I want to do, is a raw, or mostly raw vegan diet for 10 days. I want to carefully craft it so I do not make a mess in the process.
In no way is it something I would ever stick with, but for some reason this seems like a much better route to go.
Also, I have a sneaking suspicion I should keep raw egg yolks in the picture. Yes? No?

The food of course need it to be high in good fats, so coconut oil will certainly factor in.

So, give me your ideas.
Help me plan a safe and healthy 10 day cleanse menu that will not break the bank, and also will work for an Alaskan in the dead of winter

Can't help with the actual implementation, but sounds like what I've heard called "The Daniel Diet," based on when Daniel and his friends didn't eat meat/drink wine like all the other king's(?) men after they had been captured and taken to Babylon.

Also, I remember watching a program on Discovery Health (I think, it's been a couple years), but the premise was that the gathered up maybe 10 people, and they actually lived in an exhibit at a zoo (complete with "Don't Feed The Humans" signs! ) and fed them a totally raw vegetable diet. Totally monitored by docs, but diabetics no longer needed insulin, those with high blood pressure didn't need their meds anymore, everybody lost weight, etc. The only exception to raw/natural was everybody had to eat one brined olive everyday for the salt. The people also commented on how, ummmm, noisy and smelly their bodies became with all that natural fiber going on.

Yep, I have a good one floating around here somewhere.....

All fruits and veggies, cooked or raw depending on what your body tolerates and depending on the veggie (shouldn't eat too many dark green leafies raw....kidney stones are more likely...spinach, kale, collards, chard, turnip greens, beet greens, etc.) but shoot for half raw, half cooked. Cooking breaks down cell walls in a different way and makes certain nutrients more available. Don't cook to mush whenever possible.

No starchy veggies, especially at first. Eat LOTS and LOTS. It will be work to eat enough. You want to be pooping from the get-go. This is the primary way your body rids itself of toxins.

You can start the day with the juice of half a lemon in some hot water. Add the lemon juice after heating the water to keep it a bit on the raw side.

No fats of any kind for the first 1-3 days to rest the gallbladder. You can't live without fats, so add them in as soon as you feel you need them.

Add good protein in after a few days (eggs, lean poultry, fish, raw cheese), sooner if you are very active. You should rest during a cleanse, so don't work out if you usually do. If your life requires heavy work, do a cleanse when you can take time off, especially for the no fat/protein days in the beginning.

No grains, no sugars (a bit of stevia in the lemon is ok), no caffiene, no smoking, no artificial sweeteners or artificial anything.

Gradually work your healthy, traditional foods back in during the last few days.

Have some aloe pills (not juice, the aloe needs to make it past the stomach and small intestine and into the colon without being completely broken down) on hand if you tend towards constipation and take them in the beginning if you are not poopin' right from the get-go.

I think that's it. Did I miss anything?

Bbrooks, can you change the name of this thread so it is easier to search for? You know, in a year from now, I might want to do a cleanse, and if the title said cleanse in it I could find it. Thanks :hugs

I've never done much of cleansing in any HEALTHY way, so just listen to Freem LOL.

Just wanted to wish you luck on it :D

I do "carb resets" where I go to as close to zero carb as I can for up to 5 days (I get sick longer than that no matter how much fat I eat) and that resets my insulin and forces my seizures to stop if they've gotten out of control.

My "fasts" growing up were more a fun excuse to not eat or deal with food for a few days, so I think it was a less healthy version of my insulin resets. I always felt GREAT after not eating for three days. Less shaky. More focused. Now I look back and laugh my butt off because I never understood why I needed foodless days. My mom is bulemic so I thought habit? I thought I was fat without actually thinking so? Nope. My body demanded ketosis.

:gig

Freem, I randomly do that diet every early spring and early fall. I don't think about it, it's just all my body wants. I've learned to let it do anything it wants. It's much smarter than I am. Usually 2 days and I crave fats again. The whole thing lasts about 5 days and then I crave my normal foods again. Who knew!

I can't do low carb, I am healing adrenal fatigue, and it is a disaster to low carb with that.
Just pushes cortisol even higher and depletes the adrenals even more.
