All things blooming...the Flower thread

Hi All,

I thought we should have a thread dedicated to all things blooming. This can be a place to showcase your yard or maybe to add pictures of something you want to identify.
Which flowers grow naturally in your part of the world? Which ones are natural pollinators? Which ones attract butterflies or repel pests? Which ones are dangerous to our children or animals? Which ones are invasive? Which ones are edible? Which ones are just plain pretty?
Are you good at starting new plants or identifying plants? Help us out... (pleeeeeease...)

Just to get us started, here are some wildflowers (weeds...) that I recently saw on my morning walks:

What a lovely idea for a thread! I absolutely LOVE flowers, though have not planted many this season, instead turning my big front flower bed into a veggie bed. But, IMO, veggies are pretty also, with the many varied leaf shapes and sizes. Veggies are a natural to add to a flower border. Edible edging!

Some of my favorite flowers for ease of management: Nasturtium, Calendula. Both have purpose in garden, and the latter can be used in a healing salve. I LOVE day lilies. If readers have not done research on the new hybrids of those, please do. There's more than the familiar orange and yellow cultivars! Some are absolutely stunning. And they are indestructible. Some are fragrant. Reblooming. Ruffled. Look like sprinkled with diamond dust. Gorgeous pop of color with eye zones and picotee edging. And all are indestructible. Not a single pest in my yard. Easy to propagate. Next up is Iris. Again, incredible color variations available. A bit more picky re: care, with some susceptibility to disease, and iris borers.

Isaiah 40:8. The grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of the Lord stands forever. My life verse, chosen when I was about 10 y.o. I chose it b/c I loved growing things, even at that age. At the time, I did not realize the spiritual significance of that verse.

What a lovely idea for a thread! I don't have anything blooming at the moment apart from roses and lots of weeds I just tell everyone my backyard is a bee sanctuary this year lol

@sumi you've got roses blooming? Do you have any pictures?

MMD, those are all just gorgeous!!! And you take such clear and lovely pics!!!

I don't have many to contribute...haven't taken a lot of pics this season. Took a few of the butterflies on the zinnias.

Will try to get pics of the sunflowers and such.

Yes, MMD, those are all irises. I believe the large ones are German (bearded) and the smaller ones may be Dutch??? Such incredible clarity in your photos. I LOVE the swirls in the center of the sunflower. I love such intricacy in the designs of our Creator!
