If someone else didn't mention, I was going to. It's not to late for a fall garden. I didn't plant anything due pending move. But I do remember when I was younger planting things like brussels sprouts, spinach, peas. Do a bit of research and I'm sure you'll find even more that you might be interested in.

Also, there's two best times to plant trees. Spring and fall. Concider getting some dwarf fruit trees to plant. Ask your local nursery which are best for your area before you buy though!

I tried green beans this spring and didn't make very much headway with them. I know next time I will have to plant alot of them in a sunny spot. Yesterday we cut down almost all of the trees that were growing up along the fence. I hope that will help bring in more light. I seemed more sunny afterwards, but that was in the late evening. There is a nursery down the road from where we live. I might ask about the fruit trees. I would love to plant some blackberries in a container! I wonder if peas would do good in a container garden?

Oh, I must have misunderstood. You needed more light! Soz! It takes a bit of planning, because of what becomes ripe when, and whether or not you'll be doing a winter garden. But once yard is cleaned out, plant your tallest plants on the north side, and then the next tallest and so on. It's sort of a juggling act, because this only works good in prinicpal. You could have a short plant that likes shade, so if you've got a row or two of corn, and your next largest plant are tomatos in cages, leave space between for those shade loving plants.

I have decided I am going to do a container garden right smack in the middle of my "yard". 5 gallon bucket are cheap and reusable and I still have those barrels. That's were the sun is and since we cut down some of the trees growing around the fence, Im hoping I can pull off a productive Fall garden. So far I have given all my deformed cucumbers to chickens. :/

I hope it works for you. I cannot imagine life without the yummy produce from our gardens.

I planted Snow Peas in containers this year and they did quite well... now that it's getting warmer they've pretty much stopped growing, but they were doing great in the spring. I'll plant more in the fall too :)

Good luck with your containers!

I'm NOT giving up! Last week we cut the barrles down into 1 foot rings. Everything I planted this Spring has died but the banana peppers, tomaotes (I got my first red tomatoe!), and strawberries. Everything from the squash family died. I still have corn, but it is very small. I did really good with the onions earily on and still have plenty frozen. So now we have five 1 foot rings in the sunniest part of my little yard. Two have peas for a fall harvest and one has green beans. I don't know if it's too late in the season to try squashes. But with any luck I might have some peas! We did cut down some little trees but my FIL threw a big fit and would not let us cut the ONE tree that was blocking most of the sun. :/ (This was after MIL/landlord said we could). Sooo, I am probally going to have to wait until I move out to do some serious gardening. Me and SO are getting married in October so hopefully, it will be soon. If he can get a job...
